Ohtani just reached for a hard hit grounder with his bare hand (only got a piece of it). I wonder how many Angels execs are on their way to the hospital right about now?

The Brewers' bench for this game against the Cubs includes Granderson, Domingo Santana, Eric Thames, Mike Moustakas and Travis Shaw. Granted, the starter was Cole Hamels which is why a number of those guys weren't starting, but damn that's deep.

Thames in the 2nd half has a 39 wRC+ and a 46.1% K rate. Yikes!

Damn I had no idea, still a pretty sweet pinch hitter to bring out.

They just brought on Keon Broxton to pinch run, another solid bench piece.

What was Kris Bryant doing there? With a 5-man infield and the bases loaded, he gets a groundball hit to him by Yelich, and he attempts to go back to third, step and throw to first instead of coming home right away. Terrible thinking for someone who runs as fast as Yelich.

and more Bregman...this less for the Curling celebration but that beautiful face as he approaches the camera.

DeGrom has not allowed more than 3 runs in 25 consecutive games, breaking the record for the most since the mound was lowered 49 years ago

Era 1.68 this year

That's a really cool clip. I don't understand why the Goose Gossage's of the world can't accept this type of thinking. They use the analytics to understand the opponent (and themselves) better, while still acknowledging that at the end of the day it's still a baseball game and you can't be a robot. It seems like a really simple concept (yes I know the answer is people hate change).

Not enough wins. Obviously can't pitch well enough to keep his team in games.

What's the lowest ERA (for a starter) recorded since they lowered the mounds?

People hate what they don't understand. We'll be the same way when we're old and curmudgeony

1985 Dwight Gooden 1.53 ERA, in the same season he set the record that deGrom just broke.

It's remarkable to see Greg Maddux posed ERA's of 1.56 and 1.63 in back to back years ('94, '95). 19-2 with a 1.63 ERA is f'ing insane.

DeGrom has like...9 no decisions where he's pitched 7 innings and given up 1 run.

That's just sad

Please tell me Scherzer won't win the Cy Young because of W-L records

Scherzer won't win the Cy Young because of W-L records.

If the season ended today, deGrom would win.

If Scherzer wins the Cy, it should be on the back of his strikeouts, you guys. He has an outside shot at 300 strikeouts this season, as he's likely got at least four more starts to make (more if they skip the fifth starter before a scheduled off-day a couple of times) and he's 40 Ks shy. He's also been really, really good, so it's not like picking him over DeGrom for the Cy would be egregious or anything.

Isn't deGrom only superior in ERA?

deGrom has better stats on pretty much everything except strikeouts and innings pitched, 1.4 higher WAR too.

With both teams currently missing the playoffs, W/L shouldn’t be a major factor even for old school voters.

If deGrom gets injured and/or has a bad run and if Scherzer continues to deal and the Nats make a charge for the wildcard (+68 run differential is twice the wildcard leading Brewers) then it could go either way. But right now, it’s deGrom in the lead.
