Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 The narrative that the Jays can't compete in 2018 entertains me. The AL is top heavy with 4 good teams (two of which are susceptible to a big injury) and the 5th spot could realistically be barely above .500. I'm not opposed to a retooling but an assumption that you will get zero from Tulo, Pearce and Travis again just seems like a mistake. Tulo, Travis and Pearce healthy season at same time is the 3rd sign of the apocalypse. #Impusiblu

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Kingery, Crawford, Hoskins, Medina For Stroman and Pillar Who says no
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Kingery, Crawford, Hoskins, Medina For Stroman and Pillar Who says no Philly. Then they leak the offer and make Toronto an international laughingstock
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Kingery, Crawford, Hoskins, Medina For Stroman and Pillar Who says no The hype surrounding Hoskins is the entire reason that Philly is making moves now.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Anyone think the Phillies will be aggressive on Harper and Machado next off-season?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Height doesn't measure heart Didn't we establish in another thread that it did?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Philly. Then they leak the offer and make Toronto an international laughingstock Oh piss off. It's nowhere near that bad.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Oh piss off. It's nowhere near that bad. It's very bad. Hoskins alone is more valuable than Stroman + Pillar. Let alone adding Crawford + Kingery + Medina to that.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Hoskins is the best player on their team already. Steamer has him as 25th best wRC+ next year. He had 2.2 WAR in 50 games. I don't think Philly would or should do it, I'm just saying that worse deals have been executed fairly regularly.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 It's very bad. Hoskins alone is more valuable than Stroman + Pillar. Let alone adding Crawford + Kingery + Medina to that. Are you f***ed? Hoskins would have been a second or third piece like 200 PAs ago. He's no established star. Stroman+Pillar have a decent chance at doubling Hoskins' projected WAR. It's a bad trade for Philly but we've seen plenty actually happen that have been worse.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Have to reluctantly agree with Boxy here. Jury is still out on Hoskins. Is he a star or just a regular..... TBD.

I think you're significantly undervaluing Hoskins. He looks like one of the 25 or so most valuable assets in baseball right now.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Speaking of the Phillies, Cesar Hernandez has produced 7.6 WAR over the last two seasons. Couldn't believe it. Back to back years with an .OBP above .370 as well.

Back to back years with an .OBP above .370 as well. I was thinking earlier that if Philly actually did contact Toronto about Stro, they robably had a Stro for Hernandez trade in mind. They've been shopping him, and don't really need him with Kingery just about ready.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 I think you're significantly undervaluing Lawrie. He looks like one of the 25 or so most valuable assets in baseball right now. If this were 2011 off season.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 If this were 2011 off season. Sure. But both Steamer and ZiPS have him as a 3.5 win player in 2018, and he comes with 6 years of team control. He could stop being good, but he’s been destroying pitching since 2015.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Stro to the 'Stros makes more sense.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Extend Stroman and trade JD and Osuna. Perfect off-season.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 So much hoopla over a team inquiring on a player, silly wabbits!

Also the narrative that it’s impossible for the team to be good for a number of years - the only thing that guarantees that is if a full rebuild happens.

This core is not good enough and I don't see a way that it's going to get better. Our best prospects aren't ready yet, and even when they are, there are a lot of holes. Patching up the holes with mediocre FA signings isn't the way to build a championship team.

We are assuming that there is zero chance of this happening. But this is not a team that has just one option. And amazingly enough...moves can happen during the season...or even next season.

Hernandez and Alford are ready to make a difference. Tulo does have some gas left in the tank. We need some bullpen help. We could have signed Rondon for a reasonable cost. Go sign a lackey. Our starting 4 still very good. We need one decent starter and a couple bullpen arms. I don't see any way this team trades Donaldson before the middle of the season. Why would you sign estrada to one year 13 mil extension if you were going to blow it up?

They're not going to blow it up. I just think they should. I guess I'll have to wait and see how 2018 plays out and if Shapiro and Atkins are seeing something that I'm just not seeing. I hope there's something there. I'm not not optimistic.
