Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Why do you have to make every post to be condescending I don't, I know your naked amateur eye is misinformed, I can't disagree? I'd put it on his lower half being healthy.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Osuna velo is definitely down. Topping out at 93 with the four seamer.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 I just tuned in mid sentence. Did Tabler really just say that the White Sox are one of the toughest teams to beat? Because you don't know what they have and they keep coming at you? lol

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 That's his cutter. No the cutter was 89-91 his four seamer was 93 and he hit 94 once.

Being healthy is a big part but I beieve my own eyes as well. Disagree all you want, always fun having discussions about the matter, but when you respond that way you are insinuating more than disagreement...just my opinion
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Blue Jays Win!!!!!! Osuna Matata!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty simple, really.

This whole series it appears his hands are lower and his bat angle is less flat before the pitch is made...as a result he has been quicker to the ball and making better contact...being healthy helps as well

Osuna's 4 seamer velo for past few years from fangraphs: Seems like it's definitely trending down recently http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.aspx?playerid=13764&position=P&pitch=FA&data=pi And from Brooks baseball showing just 2016 to current http://www.brooksbaseball.net/velo.php?player=532077&b_hand=-1&gFilt=&pFilt=FA|SI|FC|CU|SL|CS|KN|CH|FS|SB&time=month&minmax=ci&var=mph&s_type=2&endDate=01/01/2018&startDate=04/01/2016 Very noticeably down by about 2 mph across all pitches.

If we can get a big return for him this off-season we gotta look to make that move. First year of arbitration and three years control. He's likely going to get record numbers for a reliever. And with his velo seemingly coming and going scares the hell out of me. Already had TJ. Started this year injured. Gotta get top value for him.
Cleveland Steamer Verified Member Posted August 3, 2017 Author Posted August 3, 2017 Steve Pearce is quietly putting together a solid season.
Ray Verified Member Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 We need to offload Kendrys somehow. Pearce would be a great DH. He's still worth having in the OF because of his bat, but the injury risk there is too high. Give him a full season as a primary DH and he'll give you a 120 OPS+ season with 155 games. You can also play Pearce in the OF when you really have to and rotate guys like Martin and Donaldson in the DH spot during their days off.

I'd love to dump him but hes replacement level and makes a good chunk of money. I don't know how we could move him. He'd probably get 1 year and 6 million on the open market. We'd have to take a bad contract in return probably.

Seems like everyone wants to keep Pearce and move Morales but it seems way more plausible that you could get a decent return on Pearce so why not move him and cross your fingers that faith in Morales (like faith in Smoak) will be rewarded down the line.

I'd rather have Pearce than Morales, but yeah, Atkins was the one that signed Morales mad early in the off season. They obviously like him. They have admitted mistakes before (Upton), but I think they will stick it out with Morales for at least another year sadly since he has $23mm left on his contract. If they are willing to eat up half or more of that in a trade then it's probably worth it just to make the DH spot more flexible for some of the older players on the team, but don't see it happening.

The Morales contract isn't that outrageous - $11m in 2018 and $12m in 2019. If Morales is just OK the next 2 years then he provides value. It's not completely unrealistic that he may put in 1 WAR seasons if the FO was right about him. I'll willing to give the FO the benefit of the doubt after Smoak's transformation.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 I would still say moving Morales is preferred if we don't have to give up anything to dump him, as the DH position being locked up for 2 more seasons isn't ideal. Martin and Smoak could both need to play there more in 2019 if they're both still here (plus Donaldson if he signs an extension). Even if all 3 are gone, a DH that can also play 1B fairly regularly is a lot better.

I'm not sure the FO sees Upton as a mistake. When they made the trade, they didn't know that he wouldn't hold up physically. The assett depraciated due to health concerns. It happens. I'll give them credit for not chasing a sunk cost but that doesn't mean they had the wrong idea. A healthy Upton could have been useful and would have been given a job.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
