Ray Verified Member Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Rasmussen can either go back to Oregon State or elect free agency, in which case any MLB team can negotiate with him and sign him. Very odd situation.

Very odd situation. He must really have bad medicals. Not sure I understand how the Rays would let a pick worth in the $5-10 Million range for less than a $1M. Now they won't get the pick back next year.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Any reason Warmoth and Pearson haven't been assigned any where yet? Warmoth debuted for the GCL Jays today. 2 for 3 with a SB, then lifted. Future reliever Taylor Cole also finally started his rehab assignment there today
StevieRay Verified Member Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 Correct me if wrong... thought the deadline (July 15th) has passed. Is the list on the first page officially final? Just remembering Rd17 pick Russell was rumored to sign from the day he was drafted.... This deadline seems awfully quiet.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 Jays signed undrafted FA SS Brandon Grudzielanek (nephew of Mark). He debuted for Bluefield today at 3b and went 2/4

Very odd situation. MLB denied him Free Agency, back to school he goes and the Rays get compensated next year.

I remember Mark whining because the Expos didn't give all their players cell phones, like the Yankees. Like, you make 20x more than the average American. Buy your own f***ing cell phone and stop whining.

Drew Rasmussen denied free agency by Major League Baseball According to the above article "there were "discrepancies" between Rasmussen's predraft MRI exam and the MRI conducted as his postdraft physical by the Rays" plus he's already had one Tommy John surgery. As Slade says the Rays will get a comp pick in next year's draft instead.
