Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 I'm liking how Stilson's been doing. Oh yeah, God damn Pentecost!!
King Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2017 Author Posted May 7, 2017 I'm liking how Stilson's been doing. I don't. Under a K per inning and BB rate over 4 as an old reliever. He's nothing at this point.
Ray Verified Member Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 Bichette is playing MLB the Show on easy difficulty apparently Nice to see some catching depth develop finally as well. McGuire even if he doesn't come around hitting wise is a solid backup and Jansen and Pentecost seem to be killing it.

WryNGinger Verified Member Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Do they move Tellez down a level if he stays around .200?

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Don't see that too often! Re Jansen Or the other Catcher, lighting it up. Pentecost...
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Jeff Beliveau was hitting 90 on the gun, sounds like he's finally back to full health. If he can get back to his high K ways, he could be an option for us eventually.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Or the other Catcher, lighting it up. Pentecost... It might be time to move Jansen to New Hampshire so that Pentecost can get more time behind the plate.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 I don't. Under a K per inning and BB rate over 4 as an old reliever. He's nothing at this point. I'm not saying he's a prospect but he walked 4 batters in his first couple games. Last 9.1 innings he's struck out 12 and walked 2. It's a small sample but he legitimately could fill in with the injuries. If you have to DFA him if he struggles not a big deal at 27.

Yeah, you could get away with him as an injury fill in if the situation came up. Who knows, maybe he would do fine. Relievers are weird.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 I just keep repeating "there is no such thing as a catching prospect" over and over so I don't get excited about Pentecost or Jansen. Feel free to get excited about Jansen. His development stalled the last two years but he has all of the ingredients of an MLB catcher. "19. Dan Jansen, C Video: Jansen signed for $100,000 in the 16th round in 2o13 from a Wisconsin high school and the cold weather athlete emerged quicker than expected, putting up nice numbers in his first full season. Jansen has a powerful frame at 6’2/215 and has average raw power that he’s learning to integrate into his game, but he isn’t all tools: he has more walks than strikeouts for his career. The swing is good and he was limited by a knee issue in 2014, but has a 55 arm and enough ability to stick behind the plate. His full-season debut comes in 2015 and he’s a favorite of many in the organization to take a big step forward this season." ^ that is from two years ago. People who are still down on him are underrating the complete package. Consider the injuries this guy had his last three seasons (ACL injury, broken hand 2015, hamate bone injury 2016) and how those torpedoed his numbers. Jansen > Pentecost
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 There's like one good catching prospect every 5 years.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 *** get excited about Jansen if backup catchers excite you

Damn, if you think Jansen becomes a backup C, and he's greater than Pentecost, then the latter must really be a nothing.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Wait what? Damn, if you think Jansen becomes a backup C, and he's greater than Pentecost, then the latter must really be a nothing. It's just really hard to believe Pentecost can catch at this point. And if he can't catch, it's hard to believe he can be a half-decent major leaguer. I'll take a backup C over a AAAA fringe LF (or whatever Pentecost ends up being).

I do hope one of them excels and becomes more than a backup C though.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Wasn't there's a funny name for Janson in a prospect list one year - like Danny "I'm a f***ing legend" Jansen or something? Or am I starting to lose it?
