King Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Who would YOU rather have on the team going forward for the rest of the season (ignoring options - just talent)

Yeah he seems inconsistent from day to day whether he can locate his pitches. Barnes in limited action this season is generating a lot of ground balls, which is always nice. To me the bigger question is whether it should be Tepera or Grilli (based strictly on ability right today).
strochez Verified Member Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 I voted Tepera. I think that ideally, Tepera has a long relief mop-up role with the Jays which would be different than Barnes's one inning style. Tepera has had 4 one inning appearances, all scoreless. His value for the Jays is pitching those games where they're down 8-0 through 4 innings and Gibby doesn't have to burn Biagini or another high leverage guy on a game they're very unlikely to win. Tepera has shown he can pitch those single innings but those 2 or 3 innings are what makes it worthwhile for the Jays to have him in the 'pen. Tepera suits that role better than anyone else we have. I do like Barnes and ideally, both can be in the 'pen. Barnes could make his way as a replacement for Leone if he implodes (although he has pitched well so far) or if Grilli continues to disappoint.

Governator Community Moderator Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 I voted for the guy who strikes out a lot more, walks a lot less and has been a reliever his entire 8 year pro career.
Johnny King Vancouver Canadians - A+ LHP The 19-year-old top prospect has made 16 High-A starts. He is 3-2 with a 2.92 ERA. In 61 2/3 innings, he's walked 35, but he's struck out 83 batters. Explore Johnny King News >
