burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Gibby going full Neil Wagner on Barnes here
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 3 in a row... WooHoo! Yeah bud!!!!
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 This is truly a Gruber dream game now. Why? The people here who think Barney is a better defender than Goins are really not worth the argument.
Governator Community Moderator Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 3 in a row... We're well on our way to .500 I mean .400 ball now. Good game boys. Estrada you're a stud. Boom boom boom http://i.imgur.com/YW5cUOU.gif
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 3 in a row... WooHoo! Tanaka vs Latos tomorrow, make it 4!!!!

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Gibby going full Neil Wagner on Barnes here It's frustrating. He was great for his 1 inning and clearly laboured through his second. As you mentioned he's typically a one inning pitcher. Gibbons doesn't think much of him clearly. Now he threw over 40 pitches and is getting sent down again.
Governator Community Moderator Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Shulman's voice is so soothing. I wish he did every game.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Shulman's voice is so soothing. I wish he did every game. At some point he may when he doesn't want to travel all over the place anymore.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 My god Madani is awful. Only SN would replace Barry Davis with someone 10X worse.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2017 Author Posted May 2, 2017 At some point he may when he doesn't want to travel all over the place anymore. Does not compute!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 At some point he may when he doesn't want to travel all over the place anymore. What'd you mean? He lives in Toronto and only is gone weekends for SNB and College Basketball during the winter. ESPN also pays him Millions, money that no PxP would ever get. Why the hell would he want to be travelling all summer doing the daily grind?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Receiving over 120 pitches is a large enough sample. There's not a significant difference from one game to the next, he is what he is. Gruber is actually quite correct here. You can gather a lot of information of a catcher's framing ability from one game.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 winning is just so much better than losing. should do this more often

Maile is quiet behind the plate. Anything would look better than Salty flailing around behind the plate but Maile looks in control. his movement to the ball is calculated and he's blocked very well. great backup catcher if he can do this well once or twice a week.

I agree 100%. It's so refreshing to have a backup who doesn't look like an idiot receiving a pitch that wasn't at its intended location, for once. I missed tonight's game, I'll check the 30 minute recap later on, but I was really impressed with Maile on his other start against the Rays. It's just so nice to have a sound defensive catcher as a backup for the first time in a few years, and no offense to Thole who wasn't awful but his name was attached to Dickey who was the worst to endure.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Anyone have the audio of Gibbons calling in to Wilner tonight pretending to be a fan?

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Man, Gibbons can piss me off to no end with his lineups and giving Pearce the shaft but the guy is an absolute gem.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Wilner gets destroyed once again. He's a glorified punching bag at this point.

Maile has taken a couple walks too. solid game calling and solid D with the occasional time on base and it's a winning option. I understand that top level catchers only want to play on a team where they think they can get innings and maybe take over and that is not happening if Martin doesn't die during the season. Maile is a great option, cheap price on top of everything

I'll bet he's the funniest man in the room most of the time. would love to have a beer with the guy and hear some of his baseball stories sure.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Wilner knew it was Gibby and just went with it. Listen to him chuckle when he seemingly recognizes Gibby's voice near the beginning.
