glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 So do Estrada, Liriano and Bautista even return value? At this point they'd basically all be salary dumps. The Jays are not in any financial trouble so if there is an opportunity to trade Estrada, Bautista, and Liriano, then just eat up the remainder of their deals and see if that increases the package you get back. Still probably won't get that much back but might make teams more willing to give up something useful. But yeah, I'm disappointed in how those three have performed, especially Estrada who looked like a massive trade chip about a month ago.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Morales contract looks like a complete waste. He's an average to above average hitter who loses all his value with his inability to run/field and is only getting older. Morales has been s***. We hoped we were getting a run producing power hitter who put the ball in play. His BB% is down, K% up, wRC+ of 100. Barf.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Morales is hitting the ball as hard as he did last season, but hitting more GB. Maybe he will have a better 2nd half, but yeah, he's been bad so far. K's up as well.

Morales still has a positive WPA and one of the higher Clutch ratings in the league this season, so he hasn't been completely useless regardless of what the batting metrics indicate.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Even if Morales is a 115wRC+ he really doesn't have much value with just how bad he is in the field and on the bases.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Morales is little more than filler while the Jays rebuild.

He has to be significantly better with the bat if he's to overcome the utter zero's he proves defensively and on the bases.
Ray Verified Member Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Nats interested in Raisel Iglasies which will no doubt cost Robles. If they want to go all the way, just get Osuna. Not sure what need they have for a closer post 2018 but I'll take a Robles+ for Osuna any day.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 sauce? It's just speculation but after what Yankees got for Chapman, you have to ask the world for elite relievers. The Reds have leverage.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Would there be any way Chicago would let Schwarber go..... If so what would the cost be.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Would there be any way Chicago would let Schwarber go..... If so what would the cost be. Probably Stroman.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 They get Sanchez back tonight which is a huge plus moving forward. Happ is pitching great, Stroman has been rock solid. They have one of the best closers in the game. Getting that win on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium was crucial, they needed it. The "it's still early" excuse Mike Wilner uses is no longer relevant. Have to win as many games now whether they are pretty or ugly. They need to take 3 of 4 against the Astros. They have Sanchez, Stroman and Happ lined up for the weekend, so hopefully they could win 2 of those 3. Huge going into the All-Star break. If they can hang around after the ASG leading up to the trade deadline, add some pieces that would break the bank that could give this team a boost. A second baseman and left fielder is what this team needs.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 The Jays going on a run and winning 83 games by the end of the season while missing the playoffs by a handful of games would bring back some 20 years of memories.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Correction. What this team needs is a rebuild. but, but, but they just won 3 in a row! Now tied for last in the division with the O's!

However, that would mean the Jays would have to play some .580 baseball the rest of the way with no margin for error, and if at least two of the 7(?) teams ahead of them get really hot, then 85 might not even be enough. Holding assets for too in hopes of a longshot to happen is a huge risk.

Holding assets for too in hopes of a longshot to happen is a huge risk. Most of these people who want to try and scrape out a second wildcard spot don't realize that we close out this season with something like 22 of our final 30 games being against AL East opponents. Because of this, the AL West and AL Central teams that we'd be competing with for that spot have a significant advantage because they are more competitive within their own divisions than we are within our own division. Regardless of our "2 of 3" series win against the Yankees because Betances couldn't throw a single strike, we have one of the worst winning percentages against inter-divisional rivals in the entire league. Going into that series against the Yankees I believe only Oakland had a worse winning percentage. The reality is, just how confident is anyone that we'll go into those final 30 games (which WILL be what decides the wild card spots) and come out with a sufficient winning record? We haven't managed to beat up on a single AL East team this year, and that includes the Orioles.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 You mean like trading G.Torres for a 1/2 year rental reliever? I hashed this out in another thread already. The Chapman and Miller deals netted a top 30 prospect (both Torres and Frazier were like... 27 or 29 ranked at the time of the trades) and some filler. Miller was still under control and Chapman was ultimately resigned. And those 2 are the best 2 relievers in baseball. No team (I think) would trade a top 10 prospect for a reliever, regardless of who the reliever is.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Correction. What this team needs is a rebuild. I really don't know how I would feel of the Jays went on like a 8-10 game winning streak right now. I would be happy they're winning obviously because it sucks watching losing baseball. ... but just knowing that would f*** up any chances of jettisoning the guys that need to be punted for the betterment of the long term outlook would make me unhappy at the same time. It's weird, but I'm kinda hoping for losing baseball from here on out for the sake of my sanity. Not like 110 loss losing baseball, just... right where they are would be fine. .500 or slightly under.
