Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 Holy hell I hope that was just a troll
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 One or two of Leone, Tepera or Loup will be taking a plane to Buffalo after tonight to get a fresh arm(s) for tomorrow's game.. games like this can tax a pen. Really need 6 good innings from the Sanchize tomorrow.. Howell

mtljaysfan Verified Member Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 Well we got Gibbby 1.0 tonite, instead of the Gibby 2.0 we all loved and enjoyed so much for the first 3 games(even with the first 2 loses). -Not having Martin catching Liriano -Let Liriano and Howell s*** the bed for too long when it was so bloody obbvious ther got nothing going I'd rather have a good defensive catcher, than this s***** Salty.

Jesus christ, did you guys even watch the game? NO catcher was going to do anything to stop that meltdown by Liriano.

What was Gibby supposed to do? Every time a reliever shits the bed for 2-3 batters, replace them? Are you aware that there are a finite number of relievers available in the bullpen? Saltalamacchia catching Liriano had absolutely nothing to do with his performance. Liriano just has a start here and there where he loses his control completely. Gibby was fine tonight. His players didn't perform, any time you need to pull your starter in the first inning, you're kind of up against the wall. I don't think he's done anything that I'd complain about so far this season. He's been excellent.

Clear after 2 batters he didn't have it yet was left in to face another 3(2?). Howell shouldn't be facing any RHB, Loup is the one you want to use against both types of batters.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 Yeah, Salty is s***, but no way he was responsible for Liriano pitching like that. Liriano will probably have games like this throughout the season, as well as stretches where he looks like an ace. That's just who he is.

My only issue with him yesterday is that Howell isn't someone you tell to go out an pitch an inning regardless of who is up. He's a situational lefty.

I don't think it's fair to criticize Gibby for giving him a day off. We have no idea what was said behind closed doors. I do wish the backup catcher was someone who isn't Saltalamacchia though.

Is there a pitcher on this pitching staff who needs Martin more than Liriano? The right call should have been to start Salty with Stroman

He's a situational lefty. I'm going to forgive him for that because at the end of the day, he needed his bullpen to cover nearly a full 9 innings.
