spats Verified Member Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 I hope you don't mind me starting a new thread...sometimes these reports can get lost in the prospects thread. News from the complex today. Latos sucks... probably gave up 8 hits in a row in an inter- squad game along with showing some attitude. Travis hit the ball hard every at bat and made a great play in the hole to get an out. Gurriel is a physical specimen and hit a line drive single in the only at bat I saw. SRF dominated in his 3 innings ( there were 2 inter squad games on today) Talked to Christian Williams father who said his son would be in Lansing along with Biggio, Bichette, Vlady and Woodman. Will have to plan a trip to Lansing. Pentecost will start at 1st in Dunedin and according to Charlie Wilson, so will T.J Zeuch All the full season players leave tomorrow. I'll go again on Monday to see if they've started extended spring.
King Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Lansing is going to be fun this year. First two games of their season are on MiLB.TV as well. Next Thursday and Friday!
43211234 Verified Member Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Do you mean Pentecost will be playing 1B or just that he's starting the season at Dunedin? Thanks for the report!
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Ugh Latos is not the answer. We will desperately need some additional depth.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Pentecost will start at 1st in Dunedin and according to Charlie Wilson, so will T.J Zeuch A bit of a surprise they are moving Zeuch to 1B... but hey, they know what they are doing.
spats Verified Member Posted April 1, 2017 Author Posted April 1, 2017 Sorry for the confusion. Pentecost will start at 1st base in Dunedin. Zeuch will pitch for Dunedin this year...moving up quickly.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 just pulling your chain. Thanks for the report, good to hear!
mphenhef Verified Member Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 I enjoyed reading a first hand account. I would love to see more throighout the year. Thanks.

spats Verified Member Posted April 7, 2017 Author Posted April 7, 2017 Missed Dunedin's first game...a loss to Clearwater as I was at the Trop for the Jays game. As you probably saw for yourself, Tulo and Martin look lost at the plate...hope they break out soon. Morales blast was a no doubter the moment it left the bat. I would guess that more than half the people there ( there weren't many) were Jays fans. Nice that the attendance is so low, we were able to sit anywhere. For today's game and tomorrows, the total cost of my tickets was $22.11. ..$15 tonight (senior special every Thurs) and a promo every Friday from 7-Eleven...3rd deck tickets for $7.11. Of course, I won't be sitting in the 3rd deck. Gotta love it I hope they never leave the Trop. Will be at the Dunedin games on Sat and Sun.

spats Verified Member Posted April 7, 2017 Author Posted April 7, 2017 Did you win the 50-50 of $121? Haha. Actually it was over $6500.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 Haha. Actually it was over $6500. Really? TheScore had something saying it was $121 so that is why I said that number. I thought it was ridiculously low so 6500 sounds a lot more normal.
wamco Verified Member Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 lol... I second this. This is like mad cow disease but the cows are blowing each other
spats Verified Member Posted April 9, 2017 Author Posted April 9, 2017 Good news and bad from the Dunedin Jays tonight. Good news- Pentecost with a homer and a line double to left plus stellar defence at first..made a nice play going to his left to prevent a double. Ryan Cook with a strong 3 innings in relief. Free tickets to the game and free movie tickets when the baby Jays win on a Saturday. Bad news- Zeuch left at the top of the second before he even faced a batter after a good first inning. The only positive I can offer is that he didn't seem to be in any distress. Hope it's nothing serious.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Hey spats have you been hanging out at extended ST? Looking for any news on Palacios

spats Verified Member Posted April 9, 2017 Author Posted April 9, 2017 Hey spats have you been hanging out at extended ST? Looking for any news on Palacios Extended starts next week. I'll look for Palacios...really like him.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Extended starts next week. I'll look for Palacios...really like him. I expected him to be at Lansing. Maybe there are some things they want him to work on.

spats Verified Member Posted April 14, 2017 Author Posted April 14, 2017 Something's going on with Pentecost. Saturday he homers, Sunday has a double and looks good in both games. Dunedin goes on a road trip for a week and he is assigned to Vancouver. If he was hurt, they could just put him on the DL. Extended spring games start today and I'm wondering if he will finally be catching and then they can reassign him later. Will post later if I hear any news.
spats Verified Member Posted April 14, 2017 Author Posted April 14, 2017 Palacios played today...only saw one at bat since I spent most of the time at the other diamond watching Gurriel. Gurriel drove a line shot double into the right field corner in his first at bat and just jogged into second.. I think he's nursing a hammy injury. No sign of Pentecost , so I asked a gentleman, who looked like a coach, about him and he wasn't sure but the guy next to him said that they kept him back from the road trip to get more work and would catch tomorrow before being reinstated next week. I didn't realize at first but that guy was Pat Hentgen. Never know who you'll see at the complex. Will report on Pentecost tomorrow. Btw, Reggie Pruitt is really fast... scored from first on a single when the outfielder bobbled the ball. Also a Mitch Nay (remember him) sighting...hit one to the warning track.

spats Verified Member Posted April 15, 2017 Author Posted April 15, 2017 Early game today at complex. Couldn't stay long..have to pick up my girlfriend at the airport. Pentecost was catching and looked good behind the plate. Pat Borders, Ernie Whitt and Pat Hentgen with a watchful eye on the proceedings. Hope to see him catching when the baby Jays return next week. Will keep you posted.

spats Verified Member Posted April 15, 2017 Author Posted April 15, 2017 I was only there a couple of innings but he rifled the ball to 2nd after the warm up pitches. Good accurate throws.
spats Verified Member Posted April 15, 2017 Author Posted April 15, 2017 From a friend who stayed to watch the rest of the game this morning- Pentecost threw out a runner stealing second easily and handled everything behind the plate flawlessly. Meanwhile Gurriel played 3rd on the other diamond and my friend was impressed that he ranged to his right on a slow roller, looked the runner back and still threw out the guy at first. He also hit a deep HR to left after 2 doubles yesterday...one to each field. I am excited about this kid. Off day tomorrow. Will be at the Dunedin game on Monday.

Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
