43211234 Verified Member Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Why exactly do you say that? Just saying that Shatkins has built much better minor league depth than AA. Don't know how you'd argue that.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Depth comes the organization and players you add to it. The Roberto Hernandez, Wade Leblanc, Brett Oberholtzer, Mat Lagos and Edwin Jacksons of the world are much preferable to the Ramon Ortiz and Chien Ming Wangs. I'll quote you again, because that isn't what you said. I really don't see what makes the first group of players better than the second. They are all pitchers that used to be OK and aren't very good anymore or were never good to begin with.

Not only that Chein Ming Wang, Johan Santana and Ramon Ortiz were far more successful has been then the kind of Garbage Shapiro is signing. None of these pitchers will ever make a start for the Bluejays or if they do we will be lucky they will be replacement value. This is money in the toilet, just like Franklin Morales. These are the same clowns who circled jerk the $2M Morales signing OMG SHAPIRO OMG HE IS A BASEBALL NAME OMG EVERYONE ON THE CIRCLE JERK TRAIN Just wait till 2-3 years when we are in last place, and 15K fans are showing up at Rogers Centre. Shapiro will single handedly destroy this franchise, perhaps even on purpose.

If the Jays actually had pitching prospects above the low minors, they wouldn't need to do as much of it, but yeah, this is pretty typical. Good pitchers don't sign minor league deals or agree to start a season in the minors to serve as depth, so you take chances on guys like Latos and Floyd, and hope you get something.

We do have 2 very good prospects that will start the year in AA and have a shot at contributing in 2017. After this year, I think that we will start to see a more steady stream of young pitchers knocking on the door. We've had some of the best minor league pitching for years now, but they were always traded away before they made it. Now it seems like we will give them more of a shot.
