RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Having a good rotation is this teams only chance. Why are we talking about taking away from that? Especially when other needs could have easily been met via Free Agency Unless Latos is willing to become a reliever.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 If it's a ML deal throw him in the pen and have him go max effort. See if he can get to 93-94. If his arm falls off so be it.
UWHabs Verified Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 I think they could get away with an SP for OF trade now. Latos, Bolsinger, Biagini, Sparkman, Oberholtzer, Floyd, House, Harrell is a lot of options for the 5th starter spot. A lot of pretty terrible options. I mean, sure, if the Rockies wanted to deal us Car-Go for Liriano, sure, let's do it. But I don't think we can count on any of those guys as a 5th starter, and then potenatially as a 4th starter if Estrada's back acts up again.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 I would be surprised if it was a major league deal. Probably a minor league deal where he will get $1.5mm if he makes the team.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 He has options left so maybe he is giving the Veterans consent to be optioned to Buffalo if he doesn't make the team out of spring.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 It's a minor league deal. $1mm if he makes the team with $500k in incentives.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 My pop in once in a while for a bit of rambling strikes again. I need to be a bit more concise. I think it would have worked better as a flowchart.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 They seem to be discussing a minor league deal. Ben Nicholson Smith was just stating what his salary would be if he made the big league roster. That makes more sense. He said very clearly that it would be a major league deal when I referenced him, just for the record. I'm much happier with a minor league deal though, nice signing.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 I think they could get away with an SP for OF trade now. Latos, Bolsinger, Biagini, Sparkman, Oberholtzer, Floyd, House, Harrell is a lot of options for the 5th starter spot. A lot of extremely questionable options. I'd be very surprised if at least 3 of them don't leave the organization before the season starts. Sparkman, Harrell, and Oberholtzer are hardly serviceable options and we don't even know if Floyd and House are completely healthy. This really isn't any more depth than we have had in previous years with guys like LeBlanc, Copeland, Diamond, etc. I'd prefer to hang onto it.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Latos is at the top of the douch-o-meter. Right next to Lawrie.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Latos is at the top of the douch-o-meter. Right next to Lawrie. I wonder if being on the cusp of obscurity snaps him into shape (both physically and psychologically).

I know odds are against him but this FO is determined to build a solid farm, and to have a free look at a possible young asset why not?? They are gonna give him a long look. Last year at this time I'm sure you were saying Biagini was not a serviceable option as well. Chances are stacked against him but Lets have a look before we rule him out.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 It's a minor league deal. $1mm if he makes the team with $500k in incentives. Good. I was about to say he has done nothing to warrant a major league deal at this point. If he shows some promise and wants to stick it out in AAA more power to him. Some bad s*** would have to happen for him to make this team.

guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 No such thing as a bad minor league deal. Just gotta pray he can throw some heat and make the pen, he seems all but washed up as a starter.

Don't see buffalo as the city that screams health craze. If he's down there til July, he'll come up looking like colon or janikowski

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Did I read somewhere today that Latos fastball was hitting 95 MPH at the end of the season last year or did I dream that?
