jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Remarkable to look back and realize that the Jays traded Mike Napoli (when he was still a catcher), Carlos Perez, Yan Gomes, and Travis d'Arnaud during the time that JPA was starting catcher. They put a lot of faith in him and it did not pay off even a little bit. To be fair, none of Carlos Perez, Yan Gomes or Travis D'Arnaud would be catching in Toronto everyday even if they were kept.. Perez hasn't hit in LA and is losing his starting job to Martin Maldonado in 2017, Gomes went off a cliff offensively after 2014 (his only good season) and has been nearly Arencibia bad and his contract is an albatross for the Indians.. only with better defense and pitch framing, and D'Arnaud can't stay healthy--we still would've have to go after Russell Martin regardless. And after 2013, Napoli can no longer catch.. he's basically a DH/1B now (who still hasn't signed yet despite being connected to Texas). And yes, Zaun was right about JPA--he is the main reason the Jays stunk in 2013 (and injuries as well).
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 My favourite JP memory was when they unveiled the new Blue Jay uniforms. I can't remember who all was there, but everyone was either modelling the blue, grey or white tops. And then there was JPA.. in the spring training/BP gear. Extreme douche. Don't let the door hit ya on the way out bud. Edit: I see King has the pic.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I can't think of a single Blue Jay player who I would've hated more than JPA in the last 10 years.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Much like Steve Pearce, he was pretty solid overall for the Rays, based on a small sample size of WAR.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Fantasy members, please be advised that The Arencibia Classic league has been re-branded The Arencibia Memorial Classic.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 The darkness of this day continues to spread. Except Gose will likely get claimed by someone.. there are teams that need OF depth..
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 The darkness of this day continues to spread. Too Much mustard not to get claimed.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Gose would be more useful if teams had gotten 26 man rosters in the new CBA

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 The guy managed to make $3.2 million! Not bad JP.. not bad. After taxes, agent cut and the fact that he seemed really dumn, I wouldnt be surprised if he's broke
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 I remember how he used to throw from his knees for im guessing a 0% caught stealing. I also remember a decent Tim Kurkjian impression:

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Another guy saying Bautista is a great teammate Yeah and it's not like he has a horse in the race at this point.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Yeah and it's not like he has a horse in the race at this point. He was very candid, loved that he stuck up for Jose on other clubs, I'd assume that was his time in Baltimore and Tampa, especially.
Key22 Verified Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Good thing he found himself a sugar momma before his career went bust completely and marrried her in 2016 http://people.com/country/kimberly-perry-official-wedding-photo-with-j-p-arencibia/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Band_Perry Screw baseball - he hit his home run with her. He got plenty of money out of baseball and can retire in his early 30s - not too shabby.
Key22 Verified Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I wish Jose could keep his cool with umps and other players but I can't fault the guy's passion. He desperately wants to win and he seems like he'll do anything he can to win. I'll take that over some guys just in it for the money. Jose and JD are all out all the time. Morales is supposed to be absolutely great in the clubhouse as well. The team is looking pretty good.
