Saw in a yahoo article a guy named Miles Mikolas as a long shot candidate for the rotation. Loving the 2017 stats, but how do they translate?

2017 stats: 9.0 K/9, 1.1 BB/9, 0.5 HR/9, 2.25 ERA in 188 IP (Japan)

Anybody know about him?

I saw that and looked him up on Fangraphs today too. He's 6'5. That's all I could gather. Worth a shot on a short term, cheap deal.

I'm sure quite a few teams will look at him as a low risk, high reward play.

Translates to AAA numbers(so they say), pretty good in fact, worth a flier.

"Beeston grew up in Welland, Ont. Ash grew up in central Toronto. Had Mark Shapiro been in charge of the Blue Jays in the early years, you probably wouldn’t know the names Beeston or Ash. They wouldn’t exist. They would not have been given the opportunity to flourish."

Ash not existing would have been awesome.

I literally stopped reading after that quote. Ash being given an opportunity to flourish f***ed this org for a decade.

It's not every organization that lets the head grounds crew guy take the helm and ruin things.

Very true. I wonder if the Yankees are grooming their parking attendant, born in the Bronx, to take over for Cashman down the road. If Shapiro ran that team, that wouldn't be possible, and it would be a travesty.

The ironic part is he criticizes Shatkins as "losers" after one bad season...obviously forgetting that they were integral to the success Cleveland now enjoys.

Previous to that, whined that Gord f***ing Ash wouldn't have been given a chance to flourish. Did this team even have a winning record under Ash? I know they sure as hell never made the playoffs.

Damn and I was just thinking the other day that we could use another Gord Ash type presence to help us float in the purgatory of medicocrity for years to come.

LOL Simmons obviously wrote that because one or more of his buddies got canned, I'm guessing Mal Romanin being one of them. So much snark. How is this remotely professional or get by the Sun editors?

Simmons: "The Jays fired one of my personal friends. So I'm going to write a baseless, fact-less, snarky article trashing the Jays' FO"

Sun Editors: "Sounds good to us!"

Posted

"The Jays say they want to focus on increasing the fan experience. If you want to do that I suggest the following: 1. Build a new stadium; 2. Don’t finish last in the American League in offence; 3. Try winning"

That was my favourite part of the article.

You know... When i am looking for my baseball news the first person i think of is Steve Simmons.....

The Sun has editors?

I know you're being facetious but the thought honestly crossed my mind while reading the article.

"Paul Beeston was the first employee hired by the Blue Jays. He worked out so well he moved from accounting to business operations and later became team president."

"Good people and people good at their jobs were let go. Reasons were not really given. Explanations weren’t provided."

"Beeston grew up in Welland, Ont. Ash grew up in central Toronto."

"They weren’t cronies from Cleveland. They weren’t old buddies or pals."

UGG! ME STEVE. SIMMONS. ME MAD. AT BLUE JAYS. ME WRITE. ARTICLE.

He looks a lot like Sportsnet's stats expert Scott Carson.

He's the same guy who Jose Bautista called out on twitter a few years ago after Simmons made criticisms. Jose responded with "who are you and why are you talking to me."

Though maybe that's why you wrote you role the way you did, referencing that.

Basically he's a dipshit dinosaur, who would probably vote for guys like Matt Stairs to be in the Hall of Fame

That's exactly what I was referencing.

Don't insult dipshit dinosaurs like that, by lumping them in with this guy. Ok there might be some old guys out there who have some backwards beliefs about baseball and stubbornly cling to them, but at least they have some general knowledge of the game that was relevant at some point or another. This moron has the baseball IQ of the compliant wife/gf who comes along to the game just for the spectacle. What dinosaur ever would have said Ash was a good GM?

Simmons is a chump but this article is on a whole new level. This somehow needs to go viral so many more people can mock his stupidity and he can witness it and scowl. Isn't there some way to get someone to write about it on Fangraphs or set up a Twitter hashtag mocking it?

The sad part it was my father-in-law who told me about the article. He said Steve Simmons ripped the Jays a new one and although he couldn't exactly recount which GM the article spoke about, he generally agreed with Simmons. Unfortunately, he's getting old and battling cancer - so I had to bite my lip and nod along with him. To be fair to him, he thought it was Pat Gillick that went from selling tickets and working on the grounds crew, before working his way up to GM.

I don't get this one? I've seen a dedicated show on him, the guy's a champ. Too good at his job, lol.

I didn't even know that was an actual team position tbh.

It was eye opening the amount of knowledge this guy knew about incoming players and requests. He was a champ.
