I just hope his overall numbers are down by season's end, so his long-term contract market declines a bit. I would be all for a 5 year extension, but I'm not touching a 7-8 yr deal with a 10ft pool.

That's a pretty small pool.

-Nobody from AA cracking this rotation any time soon

-He flat out said he wants to extend the window because he's encouraged by the fans coming to the ballpark and they still believe when healthy the core can compete.

-Talks about renovations and improving the bars, Scoreboard (worst in the league and can die at any time) and food.

Hard to see either side wanting to sign an extension this offseason. His numbers are down and I'm sure the Jays want to see how his body holds up next year which probably will effect the term he gets.

Do you want to pay him what he's gonna get on the open market though? That's the only question that matters.

We wanted to pay Edwin what he got paid on the open market so maybe

Agreed

5 years @ 25-30M is about the most I can see them wanting to go for

Josh might like the secutity of that this off season or he might roll the dice and try to get more years fia free agency

Donaldson will be in a weird spot because he will be a free agent at age 33, the big market teams don't need 3b (unless Dombrowski turns Dumbrowski and trades Devers), and he will be competing in the same free agent class as Harper and Machado who are 6-7 years younger than him. If he tests free agency, he's probably not going to get the deals he thinks he will.

The Jays should offer him a four year extension on top of his one year of control left. That sets him up from age 32-36. That's reasonable. If not, then let him test free agency or trade him next trade deadline.

Cespedes' contract is a good comp. I'd offer him around $27.5 million/yr for 5 years in the offseason and see how he responds to that. Machado and Harper being on the market the same year definitely hurts him. But by all accounts, it seems like he likes being in Toronto and I think he has a good relationship with the front office as well.

This would be so much easier if we didn't have Tulo's contract on the books.

Hey all, just thought I'd throw this out there. After the recent "article" from Jays Journal about Nate "Nolan Ryan" Pearson, I sent an email to BlueJaysAggregator.com explaining that while I loved their site, Jays Journal really needed to be dropped. I mentioned that I understood that while BJAgg lived by page hits, JJ was really letting the quality side of things down. I asked if there was a way to customize the sites listed.

In all honesty, I expected an email saying "thanks for you input, we will take it under advisement", but instead the sites operator (George) sent me a long email back thanking me and explaining in full detail that he makes no money from any of the four Agg sites, so is not overly concerned with page hits. He mentioned that he gets most complaints about 1) Steve Simmons, 2) Rosie Dimanno and 3) Fansided (Jays Journal Site Owner). I found this particularly hilarious.

Anyway he said that a customizable site is in the works but is still a year away. He then blew my mind by providing me with instructions on how to rewrite the sites address to remove unwanted content!

The regular address is http://bluejaysaggr.com. To remove JJ, the sites address is rewritten as http://bluejaysaggr.com/?mute_src=jays-journal. He also mentioned that if you want to remove more site, you can use a comma and add whatever site you'd like.

As I'm sure many of you use BJAgg as much as me, I thought I'd send some good word of mouth advertising to his prime audience.

We've had 25 different players on the DL this season.

Gibbons named Rowley as Saturday's starting pitcher... Yay! I'm guessing Campos or Smith go back down Saturday morning.

Rowley, a West Point graduate who was out of professional baseball in 2014 and '15 to serve in the United States military, holds a 2.29 ERA over 106 1/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season. Saturday will be his MLB debut.

Yeah makes sense.

J.P. Howell is the only current reliever who's out of options so we have lots of flexibility too.

Martin on the DL too now. Fun season!

He was with a hot babe that looked like a pornstar. I'm sure he'll be alright.

Sources I've read said Chris Smith and Coghlan have been DFA but not Howell?

Agree on all counts

I'd be fine with 5 years @27.5 but paying Tulo and Martin 20 at the same time is tough. Martin is probably still worth it, Tulo clearly is not

Machado will get similar money but way more years than Donaldson, and only a few teams both need a 3B and can afford these contracts. So that might help in negotiating with Donaldson's agent. (I suppose a team might sign Machado with intent to use him at SS but most of the big $ teams are set at that position too)

You're correct, there's no way the Birds would let a LHP like Howell away for free. I'm intrigued to see how he does now that he's healthy.
