Any chance Miami leaked this (knowing Stanton won't accept a trade to SF) to drive up his price?

Well played if Dodgers have to give up more

P.S. Sorry for SFG vs STL mix-up...

I don't see them anywhere near world series caliber even with Mike Stanton

What about Stanton + Ohtani?

Posey

Stanton

Belt

Crawford

Panik

Pence

Span

MadBum

Ohtani

Cueto

Shark

That's a good team.

Rafael Palmeiro Seeks To Defy Odds With MLB Comeback

By Jeff Todd | December 6, 2017 at 11:06am CDT

Former MLB star Rafael Palmeiro, who left the game in disgrace after testing positive for steroids back in 2005, tells Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic that he is seriously contemplating an effort to return to the majors. Of course, there are quite a few barriers for the left-handed-hitting first baseman, who is a dozen years removed from his playing days and is now 53 years of age.

Wow, Mike Minor got 3/$28M. That's longer/more than I would have expected, I'm interested to see if the return to rotation experiment pans out.

Must be out of cash. He doesn't have Jose Canseco-level of name recognition so he has to do what he can to raise his profile somehow so he too can get d-list celebrity appearance deals on The Apprentice and charge $3,000 to hang out with you at bachelor parties.

I call BS though until he starts training for MMA and attempts his first fight against a 7 foot tall 400 pound Korean man.

I love how he's trending on Fangraphs right now. He had a really solid career. Roids are good mmmkay

Being critical of his poor use of cash and being critical of his use of roids are two different things.

Though his use of roids and his lack of cash now could have a slight positive correlation.

Is he broke, is that what this's about? Duquette said he'd give him a shot, lol.

Hes got one helluva moustache. But despite his incredible career he will always be known for this and this alone.

Ohtani's finished with his in team interviews and Stanton will decide on the SF offer by the end of the week, kicks off the Winter Meetings in style, sweet, stove should get hot.

If you would have told me at this time last year...we could trade out Ryan Goins for Aledmys Diaz; at the cost of JB Woodman. Not a bad backup MIF upgrade

So far so good.

Well, that, and his giant earplugs to drown out the boos when he played his first game back after the suspension (in Toronto!)

Cross Chatwood off the list:

Cubs Sign Tyler Chatwood

12:29pm: The exact number on the deal is a $38MM guarantee, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports (Twitter link).

12:20pm: The Cubs announced on Thursday that they’ve agreed to a three-year contract with free agent right-hander Tyler Chatwood. The 27-year-old Chatwood, a client of Excel Sports Management, will receive “around $40MM” on the contract, according to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi (Twitter link).

Chatwood, who’ll turn 28 in a couple of weeks, was one of the youngest free agents on the market. It’s a significant payday for a player that has yet to experience sustained success at the big league level, but the right-hander was a popular free agent target due to a number of appealing secondary metrics including his velocity, ground-ball rate and spin rate. Chatwood posted a 4.69 ERA with 7.3 K/9 against 4.7 BB/9 in 147 2/3 innings with the Rockies this past season, though in addition to his age and promising peripherals, he’s long performed considerably better away from the hitters’ haven of Coors Field.

More to come.

Would've been okay with giving him $30 million at most. $38 million seems a little steep for a guy with a career WHIP of 1.335 outside Coors.

3/38 for Chatwood is pretty high. I guess they are paying for potential, which might pay off if he stays healthy.

The SP market aside from Ohtani and Darvish really is awful. No idea who the Jays are going to get, but chances are it will be a non difference maker if it comes from the FA class.

That's probably a good thing. We have solid starting pitching in Stro, Sanchez, Happ & Estrada. If we're going to spend a lot on a FA, I'd rather make an impact in RF or via trade.
