John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 You probably wouldn't need to rest him before his start if he's DHing. I could definitely see him not hitting for at least the day after his start though. Really hard to say. He could be the first real legit test case in a very long time. What does he do now in Japan? Does he get a few days rest and then play the field for 3 days until his next start or us he out in the field the next day after pitching?

As far as I can tell (with manual spot checking, since I'm not sure where specific game logs are), he seems to DH in at least some games the day after he pitches.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 Phillies signed Henderson Alvarez to a minor league contract Damn, how badly has he fallen off that he's only able to get a minor league deal?
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 Damn, how badly has he fallen off that he's only able to get a minor league deal? They say his Velocity is back up to 97MPH but he was still wasn't able to get a contract and pitched in Indy ball.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 They say his Velocity is back up to 97MPH but he was still wasn't able to get a contract and pitched in Indy ball. if he lost a feel for the change he'd have zero value. He never blew the fastball past anyone anyway. Still you'd think someone would consider him for a reliever though.

Yea even if he didn't regain his secondary stuff he still was a pretty decent starter for 3 years, we've seen guys a lot shittier than Alvarez get shots at a rotation spot this year alone. We certainly could of used a guy like Alvarez with a little potential and still young. Then again everyone passed on him after his showcase and he wasn't dominating at all in Indy ball.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 BREAKING NEWS Ken Rosenthal leaving Fox and joins The Athletic He's not leaving Fox - but they recently moved to video only so he no longer had a platform for his articles (he's been putting them on Facebook). Now he does, though the Athletic is behind a paywall. He'll still do video for both Fox and MLB.com.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 WTF is 'The Athletic'? Subscription based sports coverage with local and national stories. A lot of former SI editors involved. The concept is okay...no click bait, no ads. Just sports stories. I just don't know what the rates are or what they offer different.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 Fooook! He was elite this year too. That's a shame, add that to the tally of blows to my squad in LOD for next season.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 Rich Hill is pitching a hell of a game. Perfect through 7IP and 9 K's. I probably just jinxed it though.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 Kind of a shame when an ump makes a call like that just to keep it going.
