G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 We're still not completely out of it. We really need to go on a run though for it to happen. True.. And the opening day roster was capable of winning in bunches I'm just not sure the squad as currently constructed can. Too many replacement level players at some key positions
wk680 Verified Member Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 True.. And the opening day roster was capable of winning in bunches I'm just not sure the squad as currently constructed can. Too many replacement level players at some key positions Travis looks like he could be back in late August. If he comes back and plays well, along with a continuation of Donaldson's resurgence and Smoak's production, the offense might be good enough to make some kind of run. Adding Sanchez back (even in the bullpen) could be a big boost. But of course the question will be whether the starting pitching can put together a consistent run of quality outings. I'm anxious to see how Biagini does in his upcoming stint in the rotation. But in the end, the Jays need to win two thirds of their remaining 46 games just to reach 85 wins. While 85 might be enough in this year's AL, that's a tall order even if a lot of things fall into place.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Woohoo... Indians on the board early. Pile on boys!

MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Tampa, New York and Minnesota all losing. Good for the WC race.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Indians have now gotten 2 free runs, sweet!

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 In saying all that, losing Tulo and likely Martin for the year... suxxxxxxxxxx Losing Tulo IMO is not a big deal. It's not like he was contributing anyways when he was on the field this season. Martin on the other hand is a huge loss that makes it even a lot tougher now to contend for a wild card spot down the stretch.

wk680 Verified Member Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 You sound like Mike Wilner. No I am just stating some of the things that would all need to happen for a Jays strong finish, but I don't think it will happen. Wilner actually presents the scenario as if it has a more than 5 % chance in happening - Kool-aid for the true believers if you will.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 WAT? Tulo>Goins/Barney combined. And yes, I agree. Well yeah but Tulo wasn't really providing any value when he was on the field this season. Tulo produced a 0 WAR while Goins is at -0.6 WAR currently. Obviously even Tulo sucking like he has is better than Goins, though it really isn't that drastic of a difference especially if Tulo kept hitting & playing the way he did. So almost the status quo. On the other hand, whoever replaces Martin on a regular basis whether its Ohlman or Lopez will be a significant downgrade and make the Jays much worse.

They are saying he could be back next week. But while he provides some offense, that is pretty much negated by the poor D.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Doesn't seem like an argument worth torturing ourselves over, they're both out and it sucks for all of us. Would be pretty neat to see Danny Jansen called up to get his feet wet in Martin's absence and it's too bad we don't have a middle infield prospect currently of similar standing.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Stanton just hit 40. Nice to see him finally stay healthy. Just needs to go to a good team now

MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Well we'll be 4 games back at the end of the night still. One of LAA and SEA will get a win and push us back half a game. On another note wtf Beckham still killing the ball 2/2 with 2 doubles and a walk today.

I thought I might be able to sneak back up into 6th in the FC but if he's out for a while I'm pretty much f***ed.

Looks like a torn ACL... it would be a huge blow to the Nats organization if he's injured long term.. as teams will stop pitching to Daniel Murphy and Ryan Zimmerman with no protection in the lineup.
