The Yankees must be ecstatic to get Sonny without giving up Adams, Sheffield, or Florial. Obviously, Gleyber and Frazier were never on the table. Mateo was expendable and is probably more of a Peraza type, Fowler is a 2nd division OF or 4th type, and Kaprelian is injured.

Kapriellian just had TJS, Fowler is out with a season ending injury, Mateo strikes out a ton and he's currently riding a hot streak in AA after struggling in High-A. All 3 have pretty high upside, but still a little puzzling.

Gray for Fowler, Mateo, and Kaprielian. That's a lot of talent to Oakland.

A lot of talent but coming with a lot of question marks

the world series should be easy to win

eh anything can happen. Phillies had like 3 aces and they only had 1 championship during that dynasty

They didn't even win a World Series with that rotation which is the funny thing. They didn't have Lee, Halladay and Oswalt in 2008.

Randy Johnson and Schilling probably give them a run, even if the rest of the rotation was meh. In 2002, they combined to go 47-12, with 650 strikeouts. In 2001, 43-12 with 665 strikeouts. Johnson came close to 400 k's that year.

For me nothing will beat the mid 90's Braves rotation:

Maddux

Glavine

Smoltz

Avery

Unreal. And I hated the Braves.

Surprised people actually like that deal for Oakland.

If the Jays traded Stroman for that plus a little extra i'd be livid

I think Stroman is just a significantly better asset. His performance has been steadier, he's under control for a year longer, and he has no history of arm troubles. Gray had his derailed by arm issues, and lost a month this year to a lat strain. This feels like Oakland getting what they can while he's healthy.

Well, Stroman has two extra years of control also. Those matter (a lot). I'm not particularly fond of the return given the injury concerns all around, but there is some pretty significant upside in the package. Oakland could do very well with it. If they had waited until the offseason or next trade deadline, it's highly unlikely they would have done any better.

edited: Hmm, I thought Gray was a free agent after 2018 for some reason.
