Word is Sonny Gray scratched from scheduled start with no apparent reason - could be a trade about to be finalized (rumor is Cubs are after him).

It was mentioned by Bob Costas during the MLB Network broadcast of Yankees/Red Sox. Costas seems a couple bricks short these days so.......

This is true, but it's also important to recognize that when players sign deals they are also trying to make sure that future players also benefit financially from deals they sign. It's important for each player to sign for as much as they can to ensure a fair split of revenues between players and owners.

Surely that would only be relevant if he signed a cut price deal to play on, not if he doesn't play at all?

There are plenty of other types that once they get that big contract they don't particularly give a s***. I respect Colby for putting in the effort even though he apparently hated playing. Most in that position would just go through the motions.

On a related slant, I'd like to pick Luis Robert 1st in BORED on his 5 tool potential but won't because the ability of Cubans to handle the switch from poverty to extreme wealth is generally suspect, IMO. Robert is probably too busy shopping since he signed to put in the effort needed.

I have no concept of what it's like to already have like $20M in net worth or whatever he has, but it's hard to imagine me hating a job so much that I wouldn't slog through another few years to increase that by 50%.

Put all your savings into one of my penny stock plays and I'll show you how to do that in a matter of weeks, not years :D

https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/1333594-machado-baseball-is-a-little-boring-to-watch

"Yeah, it's a little boring to watch it," Machado said, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN. "I don't know how people go out there and watch games. Now I know why sometimes people don't come to games."

As expected, a reddit thread went up discussing Machados comments.

A thread full of scorching hot takes about how baseball is indeed boring. Reddit is terrible.

Machado and Harper are speaking for the younger generation. They are right. I don't think Manfred is the guy who can change the game for the better, but clearly cosmetic changes have to be made. MLB can't be an 'old white man's game' and still expect to thrive in the future.

Speaking of which, trying to appeal to a younger generation and then starting all Saturday games in the evening/night is kinda stupid. I'm sure teens would love to kill 3-4 hours on a Saturday night watching baseball.

Afternoons aren't bad, I used to love that in the mid-to-late 80's. Labatts' were a great owner. Or I mis-remember, lol.

If Cozart made the all star team, Votto promised him a donkey. Kinda awesome that Votta got him a donkey lol

Haha, very bizarre. Who says baseball is boring?

Washington gets their BP help. Doolittle and Madson to the Nats

I like that deal for them. Didn't really give up much considering they are getting 2 really good relievers and Doolittle is on a great contract.

Treinen might be better than Doolittle now. I hate 1 inning max relievers and Doolittle is the worst for it. Not to mention he can't go multiple times in a week. Madson is the key to this deal but they are going into a blackhole for relievers so I'm certain he'll fall apart too. That's as much as I know...the Nats could trade for the top 10 players in baseball and they won't win a playoff series.

No discussion on what the A's got for Doolittle and Madsen?

Blake Trienen, Jesus Luzardo and Sheldon Neuse go to Oakland:

Trienen is a change of scenery candidate--hopefully moving to bigger ballparks in the AL West will help his numbers.

Jesus Luzardo is a 19 year old dominating rookie ball.. he's a long ways away.

Sheldon Neuse is a 22-year old SS/3B in mid A-ball.

Basically, this was a salary dump trade. Nats are trying to stack up for 2017 and 2018, knowing their house of cards will collapse after 2018 when Bryce Harper leaves for Chicago, LA, New York, whereever.. they have to win a World Series now, as they won't be able to afford to keep their roster together. 2 years from now, this org. is going to be a dumpster fire.. they have $107M+ tied up with only 4 players (Scherzer and Strasburg are heavily backloaded.)

The guy couldn't throw with his right arm 2 days after throwing 108 pitches? That's weak for indy ball.

Wondering if it helps set the market for a guy like Joe Smith.
