King Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 If the reports that the Twins wanted De Leon and a single lesser prospect for Dozier are true, then I think that the Dodgers made a mistake. What reports? Twins wanted De Leon, Alvarez/Buehler and some lower level flyers. Dodgers didn't want to give up more than De Leon and lower level flyers. http://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/heyman-dodgers-twins-standstill-dozier-trade-talks/
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 LA will probably get about 4 WAR total out of Forsythe for 6 years of De Leon. I really love this deal for Tampa. Frankly I'm surprised Friedman & co would do that.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Some people s*** on the event but I like it. That group of position players is going to be really fun to watch. Just imagine Trout and Harper were on there too.

Well covered here. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-dodgers-decision-to-be-intentionally-inefficient/ They spent a year building depth and shedding payroll, while remaining a contender. Taking a value hit here on an inexpensive guy, while upping their overall projections, is an understandable move IMO.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Holland with a vesting option I would've wanted that, but I doubt he would have came here as the set up guy

I mean, that's a high upside risk Shatkins should have been all over. Him and Ross have tremendous upside.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 LOL @ Hosmer making the team over Freeman and Freeman playing for Canada instead. Doesn't really matter, Goldschmidt is going to be the starter anyway. Perhaps Freeman wanted to start.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Yes. - Great value for Tampa. - Not bad for LA considering context. - LA might have informed reservations or concerns about De Leon. - Tampa has so much pitching depth this year! Wow! And a very strong top end. That's pretty much it. Would anyone here have supported a Devon Travis for De Leon trade?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Would anyone here have supported a Devon Travis for De Leon trade? Probably not. Travis posted 4.8 WAR in his first 163 games and is under control for twice as long as Dozier and Forsythe, plus we have no viable replacement for him and a full rotation of starters. It would be a multi-win hit to our 2017 roster.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Would anyone here have supported a Devon Travis for De Leon trade? In a nutshell, yes. In the Blue Jays context, probably not.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 In a nutshell, yes. In the Blue Jays context, probably not. You would trade 4 seasons of a 3-4 WAR second baseman in his mid 20s for 6 years of an unproven pitching prospect? That doesn't seem very wise.

He just had 2.5 WAR in 60% of a season. My only concern is health, and even then I'd be more worried about a pitcher's health.
