I think Pillar still has untapped offensive upside too. Certainly in terms of stolen bases. He also has good contact skills and could hit for a higher AVG with a slightly better approach.

 

Think 2014 and 2016 Lorenzo Cain.

I'd rather have the flexibility of cutting ties at any time with no commitment than have a 10M option on his 2021 season. What are the odds that 32-year old Pillar is good enough to get significantly more than that in free agency?

 

I dunno. One in five?

 

What are the odds that 31 year old KP won't be worth paying 8-9M for? One in fifteen?

Might not be a popular opinion but I would take a flyer on Gose to platoon with Upton. Probably ends up being a strong defensive corner OF and he's an improvement on Zeke. Doesn't hurt to at least look on an MiLB deal.

He has some of the best raw power on the team. Seriously watch BP and see how far he hits the ball, quite entertaining to watch. Now only if he could improve his swing..

Gose has a horrible attitude. Can't see him being back in Toronto.

Gose on anything other than a MILB deal with a short leash would make no sense. I'd actually be into trying him out as a reliever. He was considered a better pitching prospect when he was drafted but he insisted that he would only sign with a team that made him an OF (kind of a red flag in hindsight). Maybe now he wouldn't be so insistent (though I kind of doubt it).

Some team should do it. Of course it depends on if he wants to make the switch or not. If he made a successful transition to the mound he could be useful as a RP/OF/pinch runner.

He has a much more diversified skill set. Pillar is in his prime and is an 85 wRC+ bat, and needs to remain an elite CF defender to have any value. I don't think you bet on that happening in his age-32 season, 5 years down the road.

But that seems hard to do right now

 

He's starting at the top. Spent the summer getting rid of every program (and people) which was started by Theo. He will destroy the team as soon as someone asks for more money than he's willing to pay (which admittedly is probably a pretty huge number.

Edit: s***, I forgot the Reds claimed Straily off waivers so got him for free. While he was still making league minimum. LMAO

 

Edit 2: And he managed a 14-8 record while FIP'ing almost 5. LMAO even harder that his W-L record probably helped Cincinatti in negotiations

Castillo straight up for Straily is probably close and some people would prefer the Reds side of that 1for1. Straily is just not very good... a below average, #5 SP.

 

Being said, the odds are that Brice and White never impact an MLB team.
