King Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 From yesterday, but didn't see discussed http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/trade-rumors-smyly-blackmon-blue-jays-pitching-lowrie.html The Blue Jays reportedly turned down the Rockies’ ask of Marcus Stroman as part of a deal for Charlie Blackmon earlier this winter, and that seems to have ended the Jays’ chance of landing the outfielder, MLB.com’s Gregor Chisholm writes. “Talks quickly died” between the two clubs once Stroman wasn’t made available, and Chisholm doesn’t think Toronto has enough other trade chips to get Colorado’s interest.
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 RotoWire News: Blackmon was part of an unsuccessful trade attempt when the Rockies tried to acquire right-handed pitcher Marcus Stroman from the Blue Jays, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. (12/8/2016) old news lol
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Rockies are stupid to even ask for a trade like that..

This is old news man, it's referring to a tweet Terminator posted in the offseason roster thread from Jon Morosi and there was a 2 page discussion on whether it would be a good deal or not.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Anyone would think you've been busy with family at some sort of annual celebration!
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Rockies should be the ones adding.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 The Rockies FO appears to be incredibly stupid.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 The Rockies FO appears to be incredibly stupid. For asking for a player which appears to be a clear win on their side???
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 For asking for a player which appears to be a clear win on their side??? Well, they gave up the 11th pick in the 1st round so they could pay $70m to first baseman Ian Desmond. Incredibly stupid seems pretty accurate regardless.

I don't know if its just dumb luck or if the Rockies are actually targeting Stroman/pitchers with high GB%.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Funny thing is that his away numbers are significantly better than home which rules out Coors Field Effect unlike Tulo
ChrisS Verified Member Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Funny thing is that his away numbers are significantly better than home which rules out Coors Field Effect unlike Tulo Only this past year were his numbers sig better away. I think Tulo takes too much criticism. Yes he is past his prime and will likely never be as good as before but he still provides good defense, leadership and bat. If you look at the exit speed and launch angle from balls he put in play in 2016 (fangraphs) his adjusted WRC+ is 124, up from 102. His BABIP was a career low last year. It looks like he had a bit of bad luck in 2016.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 lmao @ Stroman + for Blackmon

I would expect him to be an average hitter Tulo had an OPS of .800 away from Coors and that's what he is now
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Well at least we can count on Shatkins not to give up starting pitching
baubau Verified Member Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Well at least we can count on Shatkins not to give up starting pitching I mean, the biggest trade of Shapiro's career was probably trading Bartolo Colon and Drew for Stevens, Phillips, Lee and Sizemore. But sure, we'll go with your narrative instead. Not that Stroman + for Blackmon is rednok.
Gary Verified Member Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 What's Blackmon's contract like?

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 I could have sworn I saw this piece of news around the Winter Meetings, did it get discussed again ?

I would expect him to be an average hitter Tulo had an OPS of .800 away from Coors and that's what he is now Well playing a large number of road games at AT&T, Petco and Dodger stadium, I would expect anyone's numbers to drop relative to Coors. Anyways let's hope he has a good season
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 What's Blackmon's contract like? He's in his second year of arbitration, MLBTR has him projected to receive $9M.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 I would like to get Blackmon but not for Stroman.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 The Rockies FO appears to be incredibly stupid. 4.37
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 I just wished we wouldn't give up an asset to fill a hole that can be or could have been filled through free agency Looking back why the f*** were we not on Reddick. If we had to go 4/60 we should have done it. Is giving up an asset that much better. The problem with the current regime is that they are too stringent in their approach. I wouldn't be surprised if on March 1 our team hasn't changed from today. We could be in for quite a disappointment with Atkins telling us how payroll room can be used at deadline and Upton and Pompey being the corner outfielders. I wouldn't even rank our offense in the top half of the American league at this point. A lot is said about Pearce but dude has never been healthy. Every season he has had some issue why is 2017 going to be different? If he goes down who are we looking at then? Smoak and Upton getting 600 plate appearances. God forbid if Donaldson goes down we would probably be lucky to scratch 3 runs a night.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 ???? 4.37 = Stroman's ERA i.e. he must be rubbish
Gary Verified Member Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 I'd probably make that trade. Take emotions out of the equation because I get it that Stroman is a fan favourite, but the fact is that Stroman's career projections are as a mediocre reliever.
