And ... something that hopefully happens a lot earlier ... a MLB team put back in Montreal and placed in the A.L. East.

Would this be good or bad for the Blue Jays? It'd be a lot of fun I know that. And there's a chance it could happen. Just move the Rays to Montreal.

I love the idea of the Expos coming into Toronto for three series (9 or 10 games) each season, and the Jays going to Montreal for three series (9 or 10 games.). Maybe every Canada Day too! (as the new Pearson Cup haha.) As a STH, at least one-third of my tickets would be against the Red Sox, Yankees & 'Spos. With the unbalanced schedule, Montreal's own attendance certainly should benefit from this.

You're not gonna find a better location for a stadium than where the RC currently sits.

Probably not but they have places to put it. They had an area picked out to build an NFL Stadium incase the bid for the Bills was successful.

I read somewhere that ironically the best location for a new stadium would be to return to the old Exhibition Grounds

Probably bad overall but good for Baseball in Canada. On one hand they would increase the $ by replacing Rays games with Expos games and have a new rival, but they would lose a lot of TV viewers from the Quebec/Eastern Ontario part of Canada which is worth a lot more money.

If they could make that happen, it would definitely be a good spot.

it's a horrible spot , I've Been at games at the exhibition stadium and it was horrible ...it is why fans stopped going , the wind off the lake was brutal ..."mistake by the lake " when skydome opened people appreciated the dome immensely ...no more snow on opening days , brutal winds ...etc...your generation has been spoiled ...skydome is a luxury ...that simply needs updates ..like better seating , 500 levels around hotel turned into party boxes like Cleveland

Don't think anybody would prefer a return to Exhibition Stadium over the Skydome (Rogers Centre) ... but a modern new gorgeous ballpark on the former grounds could be a different story?

What do you mean that "fans stopped going?" Attendance figures at The Ex say otherwise. The Jays were either 1st or 2nd in AL home attendance their last few years in that s***** stadium. Friends & I sat in those packed bleachers (miles behind the OF fence haha) on many occasions.

Put it up near Downsview Park.

There is A LOT of space in and around the park for future development.

Town homes are currently being built there. Most of it is federal land which complicates things as well

One of the great aspects of Toronto is that all of our major sports teams play in the downtown core. Building a stadium in Downsview would be absurd.

The Ex is the obvious choice. TFC has done well there but they'd need to fill in the surrounding areas with some commercial development in order to make it work.

Safeco seems like the best idea of a stadium with a roof, although I don't know how warm it would be in the colder months. But at least they managed to include a view of the city skyline:

How bout replacing all chairs with cupholders? I know all seats in 200 level and some in 100 level has it, but rest doesnt have it.. It is so uncomfortable to put your beer cups or pop bottles on the floor.

I went to Wrigley Field last summer and all seats had cupholders

Also, chairs at 500 level looks very crappy and I do feel like it need to be replaced

I don't want to sit on cupholders...

Joking aside this needs to be done. Not even all the seats in the infield have cupholders. They need to redo the seats by making them a lot larger too. Have the capacity 38-42K and make those 40K seats actually comfortable to be in.

exactly! they said a couple years ago the were going to change the seats, bigger and better angle for the game now that they don't have to be used for the CFL

Stephen Brunt was saying it looks like the team will be spending about a billion in stadium renovations in the years to come. Or roughly what you'd pay for a new stadium. Kind of depressing that the team will likely be stuck in the Rogers Center for the next 30 years. There's only so many ways you can improve this stadium, and the biggest (grass) doesn't sound like it's in the cards.

man, 30 years is a long time (especially for a stadium that's already 26-27 years old) ...

How long will Shapiro be team president?

Will Rogers still be the owner of the franchise 30 years from now?

Love the location ... but (once the Rays get out of the Trop) it's disappointing if we'll be the only team in MLB not playing on grass for many many years to come.

If they're going to put a Billion dollars into the stadium then I'm pretty excited to see what it will look like. Thats more than a brand new stadium costs. Wonder if Rogers will try to scam taxpayers. I can't see anyway where they get $ from them. Maybe if they built a new stadium on city owned property but not when they bought the building for pennies.

I actually like the turf. I think it gives us a home field advantage in the playoffs (Texas game 5). I like to hear the American commentators cry about it as the opponent kicks the ball around the diamond.

No but really, it has to be an advantage right?

More like a disadvantage as it discourages players from coming here.

Keep in mind this would be over the next 30 years. I think they need to repair the roof. They'll replace the seats. I think they also want to maybe add more areas like the flight deck. I'm not sure what else.

Ontario Place would be the best place to build a new ballpark. A lot of parking, and easy to get to by GO Train or TTC. They could develop the area by putting up some restaurants/bars which I'm sure would make that area more lively especially on gameday. It's so sad the land at Ontario Place has completely gone to waste.

A poster named Interchange 42 posted these photos at Urban Toronto. I wonder what's going on?

Already the Blue Jays are spending money on the Rogers Centre, with a new $1-million weight room installed over the winter and waterproofing work taking place on the concrete exterior.

Is there anyway to make it less ugly? It's just too much concrete. There has to be some sort of siding they could put on it?

I see they need to replace the roof in the coming years as well. Would be a good opportunity to make that more appealing from the inside. The Astros stadium has a much more appealing roof. Perhaps they could put some blue scaffolding on the inside of it.
