Per Jeff Passan: The Brett Cecil market escalated quickly. Teams realized three years wasn't gonna get it done, and St. Louis coveted him enough to go four.

Sucks to see him go, but I would not have gone 4/30 with him.

It's a big commitment to any reliever. If he doesn't blow his arm out though he is prob worth it.

Strange team next year without JB, EE, Cecil, Saunders etc.

One of those things is not like the others

Source confirms: Cecil to #STLCards, four years, $30.5M. Pending a physical. First reported: @jeffpassan.

I would have liked him back at 3/24. If its 4/32 or higher I can see why the Jays passed but I still might have done it.

Yeah I would have been comfortable with him back at 3/24, though I wouldn't do 4 years with him.

4 Years/30.5 Million. I think I'd do that.

It's not that bad. Basically around 7.5M per season. If he stays healthy and pitches 240-280 very good innings for them during those 4 years, he's worth it.

Its only an extra 6 Million though so it might actually work out for the Cards. Like if he has another really good year this year honestly I think there is more value with him having 3 years left on his deal than 2.
