Gary Verified Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Left-handed RP Brett Cecil agrees to a deal with the Cardinals, per team source, pending a physical. Deal for four years, may exceed $30M.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 4 Years could be above 30 Million according to Passan.
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Goodbye Squints. 4 year deal per mlbtr
Gary Verified Member Posted November 19, 2016 Author Posted November 19, 2016 Per Jeff Passan: The Brett Cecil market escalated quickly. Teams realized three years wasn't gonna get it done, and St. Louis coveted him enough to go four.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Sorry to see him go, interested to see the final contract figures.

BTS Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Sucks to see him go, but I would not have gone 4/30 with him.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I would have liked him back at 3/24. If its 4/32 or higher I can see why the Jays passed but I still might have done it.
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I liked Cecil but 4 years is gross.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Sucks to see him go, but I would not have gone 4/30 with him. It's a big commitment to any reliever. If he doesn't blow his arm out though he is prob worth it.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Strange team next year without JB, EE, Cecil, Saunders etc.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Four years for a reliever is risky. Good for Cecil.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Seems to be a lot better later in the season. If he's healthy he's one of the best relievers in the game.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Strange team next year without JB, EE, Cecil, Saunders etc. One of those things is not like the others
puphood Verified Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Ambivalent as to signing Cecil especially at 4 years but reduces the pens of one more quality Lefty.....
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 One of those things is not like the others Don't forget about Thole.
Gary Verified Member Posted November 19, 2016 Author Posted November 19, 2016 Source confirms: Cecil to #STLCards, four years, $30.5M. Pending a physical. First reported: @jeffpassan.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 4 Years/30.5 Million. I think I'd do that.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I would have liked him back at 3/24. If its 4/32 or higher I can see why the Jays passed but I still might have done it. Yeah I would have been comfortable with him back at 3/24, though I wouldn't do 4 years with him.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 4 Years/30.5 Million. I think I'd do that. It's not that bad. Basically around 7.5M per season. If he stays healthy and pitches 240-280 very good innings for them during those 4 years, he's worth it.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Yeah I would have been comfortable with him back at 3/24, though I wouldn't do 4 years with him. Its only an extra 6 Million though so it might actually work out for the Cards. Like if he has another really good year this year honestly I think there is more value with him having 3 years left on his deal than 2.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 No thanks Jeff. Good riddance. Cecil is not Andrew Miller. Sorry. He is a good reliever but he is no elite
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 The risk is he does what O'Day did last year after singing a similar deal.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Reminder of what Andrew Miller's contract is... 4 yrs/$36M
