BTS Community Moderator Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Another asset in a system that all of a sudden is looking like average after it was probably one of the worst Gurriel, McGuire, Ramirez, Bichette, and Zeuch added to the farm with nothing of consequence going out, all while trying to compete, is just great. Loving the direction of the team.

Loving the direction of the team. I wouldn't include draft picks in the mix, you could say the same for every team. Still, impressed with the other moves. I've hated 2 moves the new regime has made: the Chavez trade and the Smoak deal. Hated them at the time and they look even worse now. But they have more than made up with it with a bunch of other savvy moves like the Liriano, Happ, Estrada, Grilli, and Gurriel acquisitions.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Ang's not feeling it but he's only being signed to be a depth guy. All the reports see him as a 3B but you have to figure that the Jays see him as viable 2B depth behind Travis. You have to figure they'll give him some OF reps too so that he can be a super-util. With this lineup being a little banged and a little on the aged side, it'll be refreshing to have a guy you can and play at multiple positions with upside.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Interesting signing. Combined with Shapiro's criticism of AA's selling the farm, the prospects that came over with Liriano, it leads me to believe both EE and JB are gone for the picks. And I'm perfectly fine with that.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Agreed that this front office has so far done a good job balancing trying to win and improving the farm at the same time. They came into a very unique situation and so far have navigated through it really well. Even if he doesn't pan out, he is an asset signed to a very affordable deal. Can't complain.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I love this. It's a market we all wanted the Blue Jays to start spending into. He's talented, versatile, and gets on base. Contract has a ton of value especially if he taps into that power potential. I like that he's starting in the minors as well to polish off his development and of course aculimate himself. Start him at SS and move him around as they see fit. Really excited about the move. Great start to the off-season adding such a talented player to the organization.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Gurriel's best outcome is what Jose Ramierez? Likely could be something close to Macier Izturis?

Ben Zobrist best case scenario.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 yeah but I saw Izturis comps lol Was that not someone in this thread? A healthy Izturis is probably worth 3M a year anyway. We never had him healthy. Plus he was over 30.

Izturis was a good value signing

TBJ12 Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Great signing. Nothing not to like about this deal, at the very least the Jays likely end up with a solid utility guy who can fill in at multiple positions.
rydermike Verified Member Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 What exactly about the 9 year age gap lead you to believe that he was his dad and not his brother? Maybe he thought the "Dad" was faking his age and was actually 38 (meaning he would have had him at 16)
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Maybe he thought the "Dad" was faking his age and was actually 38 (meaning he would have had him at 16) It's GBill, just go with it.
