Third base coach would be one Id definately let go.

That would be nice. Organization seems to love him for some reason. I miss Butterfield.

Hopefully, Shapiro called him into the office ala Moneyball Beane and said to play the team as they are designed to be played (aka Shapiro's way) and you can keep your job. Hopefully, we see that as it will result in more success. Gibby seems to have a great relationship with the players, so couple that with some better decisions, could go a long way.

Jays confirm Gibbons will be fired by June next year, effectively wasting several months of next season because of their fear of change. Oh joy.

Buys the management team another year of 'he wasn't our guy'.

To me, Gibbons is the Pat Tabler of managers: predictable, unimaginative, repetitive, pedestrian, a company man, etc. He knows what he knows, he likes what he likes, and he ain't changing.

You could do worse, I suppose, and many teams have, but you would really like to believe you could do better. Disappointing he's coming back, but hardly surprising.

I don't know, he seems pretty adaptable. I think he'll follow any strategy the front office wants to employ. Gibby isn't a strategist, and I think he knows it. What he really seems to excel at is managing people. Pair him with a really good bench boss who understands the analytics really well, and it would be a perfect match.

This organization needs to revamp its replay crew. I dont know how much of that falls on Gibby, but whoever is responsible for our track record needs to move over and let someone else handle it. I dont really buy the conspiracy theory that the league is against the Jays. It is often patently obvious that the play should be or shouldnt be challenged and we seem to do the opposite.

I will say that Gibby's decision last year to challenge Kawasaki's out at first to score a run still stands as the most clever (and arguably the only clever) thing he has ever done.

I agree. In some interviews he's said things along the lines of "our stat guys tell us that this is the right play", so it does seem like he's fine being the puppet. Why not, you're getting paid either way.
