RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Anyone like Beltran? I like that his term is likely to be bery short. Flipside of that is that he's 200 years old. How many times does Beltran have to reject Toronto?
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Do you have to be so douchey all the time? The reason I'm looking for that is simple, we have openings in LF/RF, struck out a ton this season, and it would be nice to get some batting profile versatility like the Indians have with all of those LH/SW in their lineup. Obviously you look to add WAR wherever possible, but I think that combo would work nice in our lineup. He's not being a douche... it's just that you can't really approach team building in that specific of a manner. It will never workout how you think, it's just too random. You just have to maximize projected wins using the best information one has.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Do we see Tellez at any point next year?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 The only reason I wouldn't trade a starter is why would you destroy your strength. I would rather stretch out Biagini. We need 6 starters good to go
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Happ's under control for two years and he won't be overpaid even when you factor regression. No point in moving him to address your needs until you exhaust your FA options. I can understand the desire to capitalize on an unlikely 20 win season but you don't want to swing too far the other way and undervalue the player or his contract just because you expect regression.

Suggestions to trade Happ remind me of the suggestions to trade from the OF last offseason, in that we don't have a surplus: we have satisfactory depth. For the first time I can remember they're entering an offseason with 5 good starting pitchers, and there should be no motivation to subtract from that unless they add another.

Seems like this front office's m.o. is to keep the free agent shopping list as short as possible. Trading Happ probably creates a bigger hole than whichever one it addresses and thus puts them in a more vulnerable position than the one they are in now going into free agency. I can't see it.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 There are so many hole though. We are short at least 4 position players and 2 relievers. Not that much to spend either
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Do we see Tellez at any point next year? Probably. The average number of weeks in aaa before first callup for a good blue jays prospect is probably 2 or so... once a prospect has a full year in aa they are basically on standby. Doesn't mean he'll stick, after double a, it is really common for guys to then just go back and forth between aaa and the majors, as needs arise, as performance dictates. Travis - 0 Pompey - 2 or 3?? Lawrie - 3 months? Snider - 2 or 3 weeks?? Lind - 2 or 3 weeks?? Aaron Hill - a few weeks? Delgado - 0 Wells - a couple weeks.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 How the hell is there not a single Brett Cecil appreciation thread?

If anything we might need more depth. Maybe. Apart from the Stroman freak injury, the rotation has been healthy for the last 2 seasons, and I'm not sure if that's gonna continue to happen. Even Estrada with his ailing back managed to pitch his way to an All-Star appearance. I think turning Biagini into a starter is a must, just to have another depth option besides Bolsinger in AAA.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Because you posted this instead of starting one? I'm pretty sure people are tired of the appreciation circlejerk, so I didn't bother. Still surprising no one started one yesterday.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Oh great....just great.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Because you posted this instead of starting one? There should've just been a Blue Jay appreciation thread... page 1 on here, looks like a hot mess. Save for EE and Joey Bats... whom might not be back, I guess.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I'm going into to throw this out as well, Andrew McCutchen is available this offseason. Votto is probably available as well. Do we pull the trigger on any of these guys?

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 There should've just been a Blue Jay appreciation thread... page 1 on here, looks like a hot mess. I like it. I consolidated the two most negative threads into one (the Martin and Bautista ones) and then the rest of the board was mostly positive and/or jokey appreciation threads. I'll take that after a Jays elimination.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I think Cecil comes back. This is a bullpen that desperately needs pieces. I think he comes back on a multi year deal prob 2/10 with option. Beyond him though, I have no confidence in Grilli. We need to find failed starters and turn them into Elite Bullpen Arms.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 He didn't get any where near that last year. Orioles were 3 for 45 or something right? Then whatever happened did and he ended up signing with the Cubs for peanuts. Yeah I can't see Fowler getting 4/72. More like 3 for 45 or 50 etc. with an option tacked on. He's going to be 31 next season. Fowler would be a great addition to this squad though. Switch-hitter, can play CF or RF, and would be an awesome leadoff hitter who could get on-base and has gap power. Hopefully Tulo can do some recruiting this offseason.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I see, can't you just delete the ones that are absurd, lol. This board needs to reach a happy medium when it comes to number of threads. The goal is that when someone opens up they can quickly scan thread titles and get a good idea of what is going on... Given it was elimination day, let people have their fun, or vent frustration.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 What's it going to take to get Puig? I realize he's a douche but we need to replace one in RF, and Puig is young and cheap. Maybe some upside there.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Anyone want to take a shot at Ian Desmond? I don't know how much the guy is going to cost, and he wasn't a near total disaster in the outfield. His bat is meh, but most of his offensive value is base running. Maybe he can be our Zobrist. It can't be too hard for a former SS to play 3B/2B too.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Yeah, with the Mariners uniform
