Looking back I was relieved when Cleveland eliminated Boston. It seemed like a given for a trip to the world series with their injuries and the way the jays were playing. Was I ever wrong lol

My best friend is a CUBS fan, and I told him 4 months ago that it would be great if the Indians could play the Cubs in the WS. If I change course and "hope" to play the Dodgers than it could metaphorically backfire.

 

So bring on the CUBS!

I am an outsider and was surprised an opposing team would be as tolerant as this board was this week while I supported the Indians. The applause here is that you have a group of posters that are very passionate and extremely knowledgeable about baseball, and honestly you know more about the game than I ever will to be honest.

 

While I tried to scatter a post here and there to show respect that this is your house, I was never treated as a troll. I learned more about the Blue Jays in these last few days than I ever would have thought, and it was interesting to read the back and forth about your team. You have a good grasp of what your team could/didn't achieve, and what the roster could look like moving forward.

 

I can tell you I remember when John Hart drove the Indians organization when we went to the '95 & '97 World Series, and Mark Shapiro was right there in his hip pocket. The obvious difference I see for Shapiro this time is payroll. I don't want to get started on the Dolan family and their complete disregard for raising the payroll budget, but when a guy like Mark Shapiro can put together a really good plan structured team around one of the lowest payrolls in the business and last as long as he did, trust me you're going to see the results in Toronto. Mark is shrewd and a winner.

 

Just because the Indians couldn't get a WS win under him should not betray the winning atmosphere Mark instilled here in Cleveland. He never complained, he never made excuses, and he always had a keen eye on developing his farm system; just look who Cleveland gave up in the Andrew Miller trade and that should be indicative of the diversity of a Shapiro organization.

 

I have to say you guys are a real class act here on this board.

 

You obviously support your team as much as we support ours, and the words expressed here in this appreciation thread really give an Indians fan a great source of pride. We aren't a perfect team and we don't deserve any special accolades just because we may have overachieved (in some reports) predictions. We lost our best player (Michael Brantley), and then our catcher (Yon Gomes), and then with the AL Central and home field advantage on the line we lose Carlos Carrasco and Danny Salazar, #2 and #3 starters. So props to players left standing to compete against a great ballclub like the Toronto Blue Jays.

I guess I can't speak for everyone, but I've been a part of this community for close to a decade now and I can tell you that we love having exchanges with fans of other teams. There are a lot of complaints from some posters that we are mean and scare people away, but I've never seen anyone get s*** on for looking for honest discussion. Thank you for approaching this series without the goal of antagonizing us. I've liked the Indians for awhile now and I feel like they've been better than results would indicate over the last 5 years or so. Really a shame that Bourn and Swisher, which looked like amazing signings at the time, both blew up so spectacularly and out of nowhere. For me, this is a fitting reward for those years when the Indians should have been winning the Central, but weren't for whatever reason.

 

And yes, I can't wait to see what Shatkins do this offseason. I was super happy when he was announced to be coming on board and for the life of me couldn't understand the dolts who were pissed off about it.

 

Feel free to stick around if you like, we certainly don't talk strictly Blue Jays and we'd certainly welcome a regular like yourself with open arms.

You weren't the only one man, I was giddy as a kid on Christmas morning... when they beat Boston, seeing as Brantley/Carrasco and Salazar weren't playing. As I said earlier, you just have to tip your hat, they played well.

Nice post! Opposing team fans are welcomed here as long as they aren't antagonizing everyone or trolling. And this is definitely a baseball/MLB board more so than just Blue Jays. Hopefully you stick around, we could use more quality posters and less duds like Grant.

I mean, you never want your team to get eliminated. That's where the sad part comes.

 

But in the rest, I agree with you. They were the better team this series, and the better team during the regular season. I'm happy for them, I was f***ing fuming last year against KC and their s***** ass bloops and BABIP luck. Like I said, big props to them, no credit taken away whatsoever from their win, even more amplified in that they were without three of their top players.

 

Amusing that it still hurts after over a year. You are lucky that you are probably not old enough to remember the pain in '85. Too many fans here think the only way to put up a crooked number is with the long ball. KC and a few other teams have proved that myth wrong many many times. The Jays offence relies way to much on the HR. Good pitching usually prevails in the playoffs and can often shut down power based offence down. Striking out almost 10 times per game in each of the last 2 ALCS's was big problem for them. Too many guys trying to be Hero's. The Jays pitching was good enough to win but they could not manufacture runs in close games. Some even are able to do when they are down by 4 or 5 runs. That's what world series calibre teams do.
