G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 I'm not expecting a good start from Bauer. Me neither Please get to him early
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Bauer is hit or miss, will get rattled giving up a hr to lead off batter He gave up a couple hr to Boston I think his first start and got pulled early with the lead though Lol probably not gonna happen with Zeke
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Why do you guys feel so confident about this game? Stroman gives up a s*** ton of runners so we're going to be seeing a lot of stolen base opportunities and 1st-to-3rds Bauer can be nearly unhittable and you can bet he'll be throwing lots of offspeed. This game feels more like game 1. I felt a lot better with game 2 and look what happened - we couldn't adjust at all to the Indians gameplan of offspeed pitches Stroman doesn't give up many baserunners.. He barely walks anyone.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 I feel like Bauer would be on the DL if this was the regular season. Ten stitches is no joke. Ten stitches in one pinky finger is a hell of a lot. He must have gashed it along it's whole length. You can pretty much rule out the changeup for tonight.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Gotta say the pitching matchup for games 3 and 4 are very much in our favor Pretty much have to win both games and they CAN do it

Coming home in front of this crowd you'd think would energize them a bit. I think most people are trying to be confident in this game knowing full well with a loss this season is basically over

ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Bautista needs to shut his big mouth. I'm so glad he won't be a Blue Jay next year...he is so embarrassing to have to defend sometimes. SAAviour Verified Member Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 It's gonna feel like those stitches are trying to tear open with every pitch, if a blister can cause problems I imagine stitches would be a bitch to pitch with.

It's not really the same case as a blister at all though. Blister's normally appear on the index or middle finger due to friction. Likely only his changeup where his pinky would ever touch the ball so it's not going to create any friction. He's already been throwing since the incident with no limitations so i dont think its going to be an issue for him really.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 I think people are overestimating Bauer's injury. Do you really think they would have him starting a playoff game if it was that serious. Worst case scenario for Cleveland is that he pitches 3 innings and Miller goes the other 6....which is actually the best case scenario for them.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 I thought the pitching matchup for the first 2 games were also in our favor, didn't go so well... No one thought the matchup in the first game was favourable though there was certainly a hope that a strong Estrada start would negate the Kluber advantage. He certainly pitched a hell of a game but there was no margin for error.

Kluber was beatable early on but we let him off the hook. It was just one of those games we couldn't capitalize on which we've become quite accustom to this season.
OsunaMatata Verified Member Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 I was down in Cleveland for the first two ALCS games. It was tough to watch. I just kept sitting there thinking "this is the inning we breakout". It never happened. Really some bad strikeouts, the worst being Jose. We gotta get a run when we have a man on third base and 1 out. That first inning in the 1st game set the tone unfortunately. Biggest thing for the rest of the series is obviously score runs but also GET THE LEAD BEFORE MILLER COMES IN. That guy is lights out with his fastball and then comes back with the devastating slider. Wish we had him. So many excuses being given why we didn't hit.... umpires, lights... whatever. Cleveland has good pitchers and we have to try to get to them and early before Miller comes in. They didn't score many runs either but no team is going to win any games scoring 1 run over 18 innings. Hoping for a different result tonight. Tonight is a MUST WIN.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Just win. Too bad Travis is injured. I remember that bomb he hit off Bauer. Alright.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Bottomline: Jays are have to look at themselves first. They have taken hittable pitches and swung at balls in some of their at bats. JB himself I think took a 1st pitch hittable strike and ended up striking out against Tomlin. Anyway, no matter what happens, hard to dislike the Indians so kudos to them if they advance.

I agree, the key has to be to get an early lead when facing a team like that with a stacked bullpen. It is not just Miller and Allen. Their bullpen is solid 4 or 5 deep. So Jays hitters should not have any thoughts of running up the starter's pitch count like you normally would. Look for a good pitch and go for it, early and often. And with RISP, cut down your swing just looking to put the ball in play for the sac fly (or RBI single as the case may be) instead of going all out for the 3 run bomb. I agree JB's SO in 1st inning of game 1 set a bad tone. Also agree that they are done if they lose game 3, BUT winning game 3 with Clevenger (who isn't even stretched out) slated for game 4 puts the Jays right back in this thing.
