jkun41 Verified Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Couldn't be any more perfect than that. What were the chances of everything happening exactly the way we wanted it. Honestly, I'm shocked as a Toronto sports fan. I was too young to remember the world series wins, and grew up mostly in a hockey home. I got into the Raptor in ~2004 and the Jays in ~2007. An historically bad decade+ of Leafs, four straight first round exits from the Raps, and the Jays not making the playoffs for 20 years. Things dont work like this for Toronto sports fans. It seemed like we were primed for a collapse to miss the playoffs or to lose the wildcard to ****s in Baltimore. Instead we get a parrot walk off, a sweep of Texas with rat face Jr (Odor), and get to watch a sweep of Boston and rat face Sr. This along with the series comeback in the ALDS last year and the Bautista bat flip. As sad as it is to say without a championship or world series birth, this is the happiest I've been as a Toronto fan in a long time.
baseball player 3.0 Verified Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Agreed, but none of the faces on Cleveland annoy me as much as Ortiz, or Pedroia's. Or Kimbrel's gorilla stance before a pitch. I'm also happy the Jays go against someone in an identical situation. Sweep with 4-5 days rest. No excuses about being rusty. I agree with this sentiment as well. All we would hear about if the Indians went 5 and the Jays swept is that the Jays are "well rested" but the Indians are in "game shape'. I think the Jays are pound for pound a better team than the Indians so I want nothing more then to go in on equal footing.
5minutesforframing Verified Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 He's slightly more respectable than that massive prick Ortiz, but not by much. Ortiz had a great career, don't be a f***tard.

I really hate Jose Ramirez's face. That big wad of chew in his mouth makes him look ridiculous. Plus he walks with some weird, annoying strut. Not looking forward to seeing a lot of him over this series.
baseball player 3.0 Verified Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 World Series looks like it's going to be won by a team that hasn't won it in a very long time.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Grant is probably going crazy right now! Gotta love seeing the steaming piles of s*** that are Boston's players and fans going home in abject sorrow.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 LOL this thread is so salty. A man retired under his own volition from the game he loved and he left the field in tears. He'll be enjoying an easy retirement with the occasional charity work for kids. Good for him.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Allen was horrible. Jesus that was painful to watch.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 I will only be salty if David Ortiz ends up in the Hall Of Fame before Edgar Martinez. And than if you put Ortiz in all the other PED guys with qualified numbers should go in as well.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 There is no bigger Pedro fan than myself, and I understand that there is a language issue...but he absolutely has to be fired for this.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 He quickly apologized I don't see him being fired. That was pretty bad though. He won't be fired because the Native population doesn't matter. That's the end truth. Maybe they will take a poll to see if Natives think it's offensive. just like they did with Donald Sterling.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 There is no bigger Pedro fan than myself, and I understand that there is a language issue...but he absolutely has to be fired for this. Well then they should fire his colleagues too as they found it hilarious. Or better yet...calmer heads should prevail and they should just let him apologize on air and keep his job. He's just joking around, no need to trash him over it.

I just have no idea who they were. Replace this with a black stereotype or homophobic. He wouldn't be given a day. Natives have zero voice so it doesn't matter. I'd much rather see Chief Wahoo go than have Pedro fired, but at some point someone has to apologize and explain that they understand why it's offensive...then still have repercussions. Keep in mind that Pedro was one of the Dominicans to lead the charge in getting Colin Cowherd fired from ESPN for making comments that Baseball can't be that complicated, a third of the Dominican plays it. Slade Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 My god everyone is so f***ing sensitive nowadays. Yeah what he said was in really bad taste but in no way should the guy lose his job over this.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 My god everyone is so f***ing sensitive nowadays. Yeah what he said was in really bad taste but in no way should the guy lose his job over this. Cowherd did. Emily Austin did. The unknown reporter that asked Draymond Green about the Houston Floods did. Curt Schilling did. I just truly believe that if this were perpetrating black stereotypes, or gay stereotypes or coming off as Anti-Semitic, there would be swift punishment. Native rights are often trivialized, especially in sport. I mean what the the league going to say "we care deeply about how the comments hurt...oh wait no we don't give a f*** just like we've never cared that our League has a mascot and logo that is a caricature of Natives". Natives have zero power, especially in America, it's just really sad. You may think this is me being sensitive but it's something I've fought for since 1989 and have been very consistent with my statement on.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 So I just watched the video of when Ortiz went back onto the field after the game to thank the fans. Wouldn't that have been 1000 times better if there weren't 50 f***s from the media there with camera and microphones? It would have been so powerful to see him walk out to the mound all by himself to say goodbye. I hate the media so much.

I'd much rather see Chief Wahoo go than have Pedro fired, but at some point someone has to apologize and explain that they understand why it's offensive...then still have repercussions. Gary Sheffield was one of the people laughing. Not sure on the others. But yeah those are good points, I can respect that. I will give you kudos for being consistent. He would absolutely be gone if he made insensitive jokes about blacks or gays. My guess is that Pedro being Afro-Caribbean is also a factor in whether he has to go or not. A white guy would have been fired immediately. I just think that this stuff is too often followed by phony outrage when in reality it was a stupid joke. I personally wouldn't have cared if it were a similarly dumb joke about blacks, gays, white people, etc. It reminds me of people actually being upset about Gibbons' "dresses" comment. Who really cares? But again, if people are going to be upset by that stuff they should be upset about Native American jokes as well. Keep in mind that Pedro was one of the Dominicans to lead the charge in getting Colin Cowherd fired from ESPN for making comments that Baseball can't be that complicated, a third of the Dominican plays it. I also didn't know that but it doesn't change my position. Just because he's a perpetrator of phony outrage doesn't mean I want the cycle to continue.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Just because there was outrage, doesn't mean it was phony. I highly doubt it was. Well I forgot what Cowherd said exactly but upon reflection I could see people being legitimately offended. Didn't he say that baseball players are all stupid because a lot of them are Dominican and Dominicans have s***** schools? Lol that's pretty bad. But for a lot of this stuff it is phony- for example putting forth outrage over the "dresses" comment is phony and no one could convince me otherwise.

Depends who you define "outrage" but it was a dumb sexist comment that he legitimately could have apologized for.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Great talent! Guy has a plan every pitch and every at bat. Hard not to respect what he's done in his career. Do you think he's a hall of famer if he retired tomorrow? Or does he have to put up 2 to 3 more 4-5 fWAR seasons? Plus how can you hate a guy who uses a " Axe Bat" I'm a Lumberjack .... Lol
