Hi,

I'm new to this board so forgive me if I've posted this in the wrong place. Are any London-based Blue Jays fans planning on watching the game anywhere?

Unfortunately I'm 250 miles north in Durham - but you'd be made welcome he he.

Your post had me a tad excited there...thought I was going to get an opportunity to give EE a great big bear hug. Feel the love.

Haha. To be honest, I'd normally watch this at home as I did the wildcard game (not that there is much choice when the game is played in the early hours, our time). But this time, the stars seem to have aligned. Not only does the game time lend itself to a beer in a pub somewhere, but one of the guys I lived with and watched the 1993 WS winning game with in Canada happens to be in London tonight. He plays guitar for quite a well known Canadian band (although I'd never heard of them!) and they are on tour here. I'm meeting him at his gig then I'm going to insist on watching the game with him after they're done. :)

I'm in London - near Farringdon. The Maple Leaf on Maiden Lane should have it - unless there's some EPL game on tonight. I remember having to beg them to change the screens to show Raptors-Nets game 7 instead of some football match once. Not sure if I'll watch at home tonight or go there

Thanks @Candide. I was hoping to avoid the Maple Leaf to be honest, I've just never really been a fan of the place. That said, the game is CERTAIN to be on there.

No football as it is an international week. I do hate international weeks.

Bodeans BBQ near the Tower of London will have it on, they show American sports all the time. They also have a game day menu where you get a selection from the menu for £15, as well as a bar area.

yes, much, much better choice than Maple Leaf

Have any of you guys been to the new MLB store in Covent Garden? I'm often in London for work so plan to head over there to check it out soon.

passed by really quickly but didn't go in. looks decent - good layout from what it seems. didn't bother though just because anything baseball related in the UK seems to be overpriced and would rather just get friends to mule stuff over when they pass through london

With the exchange rate US and Canadian stuff is similar in price at the moment, but I know what you mean.

yup. for commodities such as baseball gear in the UK, they'll always adjust the prices upwards so it's still difficult to capitalize on the FX rates. i'm a lefty and wanted a right-handed Rawlings outfield glove. saw it for something like $80 in amazon.com, but the cheapest price via amazon.co.uk was something like £120. so it doesn't pay out either way. everything else though, it's really favorable for foreigners in the UK. taking a 5 day trip with my gf to Paris next week and 2 week christmas break around europe. booked 4 and 5 stars for everything way back in Jan 2016 when it was about 1.4 EUR to 1. been eating instant noodles every day now that it's 1.13 to 1. meanwhile, prices within London continue to rise.

Good call. Hopefully Blue Jays @ Texas on one TV, Italy v Spain on another. All subject to dragging my Canadian guest out with me. Can't see him objecting. :)

I was recently in London and wondered if there were any places that would show a MLB game. I didn't find any but I didn't really look either. I think I even passed by this Bodeans BBQ too at one point. Good luck!

The early starts will even benefit you guys too. Until Game 3, of course. Hope you took Monday off.

Which London? s***** London or London UK?

My sister lives in London, Ontario and I have to always correct people when they say "Oh you're visiting your sister in London, amazing history to see" ummm naw dirty London with white trash everywhere.

If the Jays run deep in the playoffs I am off to Amsterdam and Berlin next week, I will have to track down some bars that will play the games too!!

Riley's Haymarket just around the corner from the National Gallery would be worth checking out. Have watched NFL there before. Funny thing is, the previous sports bar at this location was Sports Cafe. Sports Cafe's first location was a Yonge and St. Claire here in Toronto. The owners then opened up the London location. When I was there in 2009, to my shock as I was walking through the bar there was a bunch of frames pics on the wall of 1992 Jays ( :.

I have a feeling it might be hard in Berlin to find the games at bars where as Amsterdam would be easier, didn't the Netherlands field a team in the World Baseball tournament?

Yes, and they had an up and coming prospect that was killed by his brother... he was in the M's system, forgot his name, Greg something?

As an aside, my mate plays in a band called Marianas Trench. That means little to me. If anyone on here has ever heard of them, are they any good?

(Going to see him before catching the second half of the game tonight)

Thats a pretty big band. I'm not a fan of their music but I know who they are.

Really? Eight of us lived in a 2 bed apartment, spending our time playing card games (*******) and guitar. I can tell you for a fact, he wasn't even the best guitarist in the apartment!

They're big for Canadian standards I guess, not a fan of their music and the lead singer has a very punchable face.

The singer from Mariana's Trench wrote (or co-wrote, I forget) Call Me Maybe for Carly Rae Jepsen. I'm not really hip to the lingo the kids use these day but to my ears MT sound EXTREMELY emo.
