Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 So I guess the next question for us is the postseason roster. We've certainly got a lot of decisions on the bench and in the bullpen. Here's how I see it: Locks: C- Martin 1B- Encarnacion 2B- Travis 3B- Donaldson SS- Tulowitzki LF- Saunders (stud vs. Tillman) CF- Pillar RF- Bautista DH- Bn- Upton Bn- Barney Bn- Carrera Bn- Bn- SP- Sanchez SP- Happ SP- Estrada SP- RP- Osuna RP- Grilli RP- Cecil RP- Biagini RP- Feldman (barely) RP- RP- P- Liriano P- Stroman ______________________________________ Decisions: *R.A. Dickey: For me, you put Stroman in the 'pen and he's your long man with Feldman. I think he could be incredibly valuable in that role. Obviously if Dickey makes the team then so does Thole. *Smoak vs. Pompey vs. Navarro: I would like to see all three make the team, but if Thole is on the bench then we have some decisions to make. Gibby has shown more confidence in Navarro than in Smoak lately. Pompey's value was evident in the playoffs last season. Would they take 3 catchers? I hope not. *7th reliever: If Dickey doesn't make the team then it comes down to Loup, Schultz, Tepera, and Barnes. If Liriano is starting then you almost have to take Loup, but I'm not sure what route they will go.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 Zeke is def in as is Navarro as backup catcher Smoak is in too for first base and Pompey for running. Team is really light on relievers

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 Are you guys starting Estrada Tuesday on short rest or something?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 C- Martin 1B- Encarnacion 2B- Travis 3B- Donaldson SS- Tulowitzki LF- Saunders CF- Pillar RF- Carrera DH-Bautista Bn- Barney - backup infielder Bn- Pompey - pinch running Bn- Navarro - backup catcher Bn- Smoak - defensive sub Bn- Upton SP- Sanchez SP- Happ SP- Estrada SP- Liriano RP- Osuna RP- Grilli RP- Cecil RP- Biagini RP- Stroman RP-Loup - extra lefty you know Gibby will do it The roster looks good to me. But Stroman hasn't done anything to be booted from the rotation. If anything Liriano will pitch out of the pen.

If anything Liriano will pitch out of the pen. None of them has. I just have Liriano as the starter in the WC game over Stroman. Had to shift someone to the bullpen. I wouldn't mind going Liriano for WC, Stroman for G1 with Liriano moving to bullpen after WC game.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 C- Martin 1B- Encarnacion 2B- Travis 3B- Donaldson SS- Tulowitzki LF- Saunders (stud vs. Tillman) CF- Pillar RF- Zeke DH- Bautista Bn- Upton Bn- Barney Bn- Navarro Bn- Smoak Bn- Pompey SP- Sanchez SP- Happ SP- Estrada SP- Stroman RP- Osuna RP- Grilli RP- Cecil RP- Biagini RP- Feldman (barely) RP- Liriano RP- Barnes That's how I see it going. Barnes really the only question mark here IMO but I think Gibby has enough faith with him over Loup, especially since Liriano will probably be our 2nd lefty
rydermike Verified Member Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 Team is really light on relievers Benoit would've been huge to have
Mkdaman1818 Verified Member Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 FYI the roster resets between wc and Alds round (if we make it). So I imagine we'll leave Sanchez, and maybe Happ, off the wc roster and put in usable arm(s) instead

Happ on 3 days is a bit more realistic

It gives us an awful lot of flexibility in a close game because he can pinch run and play anywhere.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 I'm with most of the lists here as far as not having Dickey or Thole on the roster. Down the stretch Dickey and thole have been out of the loop. I think that's the best place for them.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 Yeah maybe, but given how the last week has gone I doubt anyone from our bullpen will get a sniff other than the closing crew cuz it will likely be a small lead in the latter innings our starters have shut down some really good hitters down the stretch and our offense really can't get any worse. I like our chances.

STLJaysFan Verified Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Always need to prepare for an extra-inning marathon so having extra bullpen arms is key.
STLJaysFan Verified Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Also, utility guys that can play various positions if and when there's a bunch of substitutions during the game.
Caper Verified Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I would consider Ryan Goins in that scenario. It gives us an awful lot of flexibility in a close game because he can pinch run and play anywhere. I would have Goins in there over Smoak. Can play more positions and about the only thing he can't do better then Smoak is hit the homerun. But who the hell is Smoak going to pinch it for anyway? He can also kind of bunt and make contact better. Also, I think you can have Dickey and no Thole. You protected Martin all year, but he can catch Dickey.

Team is really light on relievers Why Have Smoak over Goins? Smoak is awful. Goins could probably play a better first base... though I can't think of the scenerio.

Goins could probably play a better first base... though I can't think of the scenerio. Goins also can't hit... Having a backup 1st baseman who can't hit is a waste of a roster spot. The only other way Goins gets into the game is if Tulo is taken out for a PR and Barney goes into play defence. Then the game would need to go to extras and you would have Barney being Pinch hit for.

If anything Liriano will pitch out of the pen. You're probably right but I like the idea of using Stroman to reinforce the bullpen (similar to how Sanchez was used last year). Liriano has been excellent our of the rotation lately so I don't think you lose that much there. Your way seems more likely to happen.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Do we know who's starting on Tuesday? Also, I really hope the Indians beat the sox Orioles team wOBA vs LHP: .299 RHP: .335 Liriano! note - they sucked against LHP last year too
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Can we please add Dermody to the team? Dude was lit during the celebrations lmao

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Everyone else agree what the lineup should be on Tuesday? Travis Donaldson Edwin Bautista Tulowitzki Martin Saunders Pillar Carrera I'll be pretty upset if Gibby puts both Bautista and Saunders in the outfield
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Who is on the hill for the O's?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I wonder if the best option may be to use both Estrada and Liriano in the wildcard game? If we could get both one turn through the rotation, it could act as a tuneup for them while giving the O's two different looks. The O's seem to be allergic to Estrada's pitch mix, as well as lefties.
ILikeSoccerandBaseball09 Verified Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 C: Martin DH: Bautista 1B Encarnacion 2B: Travis 3B: Donaldson RF: Saunders or Zeke CF: Pillar LF: Upton Saunders has been utter trash as of lately and striking out WAAY too much
