RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Looks like he has a pregnant girlfriend too according to his Instagram. Yikes. Dont know what kind of support she will get either. He didn't really get into his pay days and I am sure at 24 he probably thought he was going to make hundreds of millions. Maybe they will start a collection
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I'm sorry... I don't see the difference in this/Taveras or Adenhart's tragic deaths. I feel the same as I did when their stories broke. It's just awful news, they were all just kids. Sorry not different because of talent level, but just because I would see week in week out highlights of him, half of them just showing his spirit and love for the game. That's what makes it sadder for me, more than just talent but baseball lost a very charismatic upbeat character as well.
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Yeah it's up there... I have never been searching so vigorously on twitter to see if someone was going to post "Sorry my account got hacked" or "It's a different Jose Fernandez". This is different from Oscar Tavares too because Jose Fernandez was a show stopper. And I'm not specifically talking about his talent, he's very charismatic and had such a free spirit and passion for what he did. Cmon it's as sad as what happened to Oscar Tavares. Who the f*** gives a s*** how good you are in one of these situations...

Who the f*** gives a s*** how good you are in one of these situations... Tavares' situation is sad but it was his own fault. He was 5X over the legal limit... Hard to feel sorry for someone who is that stupid. Gotta wait and see the details on this one.

Who the f*** gives a s*** how good you are in one of these situations... If you read my other posts you can see I don't care about his talent... It's different hearing about a person you barely know about vs. A guy who seems like a genuine good kid happy with life If someone like Jose Fernandez talent wise but a POS person I'd hardly care
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Tavares' situation is sad but it was his own fault. He was 5X over the legal limit... Hard to feel sorry for someone who is that stupid. Gotta wait and see the details on this one. I had empathy for him, he was just a kid, his girlfriend was 18. People make mistakes, especially adolescents. Jose was a passenger, like you said, the details will come out sooner or later. Adenhart was killed by a DD after he won his ballgame earlier that night.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 This straight up sucks. He was supposed to start today's game, which has been cancelled by MLB. The right move considering neither team is in the playoff hunt
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Nothing good can come out of debating/arguing whose death is more tragic than the other. It's all bad news. This one reminds me of the first time I ever heard of active baseball players dying. A boating accident killing two Cleveland pitchers in the early 90's.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Unbelievable, he was one of my fav pitchers... RIP Jose. You will be missed.
labadee Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 this news made me sick to the stomach. such a shame. he was only 24. RIP
Macsattack Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Very unfortunate and sounds like avoidable condolences to the Marlins community and Jose's Family. The Player death that touched me the most was Darryl Kile heart attack and then Girardi heartfelt announcement to Wrigley field that the game was cancelled.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Terrible news. ...but why are they out at 3am boating? It's damn dark at that time.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Holy s***, this is terrible.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Terrible news. ...but why are they out at 3am boating? It's damn dark at that time. It was Saturday night so I guess they were partying or post-partying?
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I feel absolutely sick to my stomach. Watched a few clips on him just last week, seemed like a great guy. RIP
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 It's live on CP24 right now. Coast Guard and Fire Rescue. "As of right now, no alcohol or drugs were found from the accident... cause of death was full speed into the jetty, all victims were 24 to 27 and the boater was familiar with the area, all close friends, and visibility was very bad last night." Marlin players were frequent passengers of the boat, man, the team must be devastated, again my heart goes out to all victims, families friends and the Marlins Org, just tragic.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 This is heartbreaking. Honestly, there are no words right now.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 They need to educate the players better. Boating around at 3 am. I am not saying it's wrong or right but it's not exactly unavoidable I know so far no alcohol but it's hard for me to believe that it was Saturday night at 3 am and they didn't have at least a few in them. I feel sorry for his gf
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Such an awful tragedy. I hope the MLB ensures that his GF and child are forever taken care of.

Boating at high speeds at 3 AM, with very limited visibility isn't a smart thing to do.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 This is the greatest tragedy in baseball history. Roberto Clemente too, but what terrible news. He was such a promising young player.
GoJays1562 Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Just heard the news. What a tragedy way too young. We lost a star today.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 This is awful Holy f***
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 A lot of these teams take over players when they are minors with no college education. Same with the NHL. 18 year olds and 19 year olds that lack maturity. And the team is not responsible? If you get a job just any job you employer has development programs in place. When you are at university you have professors and other role models helping your development. So yes I do think there is something wrong with a system that takes young teens and makes baseball their no.1 priority. As log as they perform other behaviors are overlooked.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Absolutely tragic. From all accounts he was a great teammate, and fans loved him. He hated Jeffrey Loria like the rest of the sane population and could have been a top 10 pitcher of all time . RIP and thoughts go out to his family.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 f***... He was unbelievable. This is such a terrible loss.
