Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 This really needs it's own thread as I sit and hope for it not to be true on the verge of tears.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 Andy Slater of 940-AM WINZ reports that Jose Fernandez has been killed in a boating accident. Further details aren't available at this time, but the report has been confirmed by Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald. It's unfathomably tragic news. Fernandez turned just 24 at the end of July and, of course, had already been through plenty with what he experienced in defecting from Cuba. Our thoughts go out to Fernandez's family and the Marlins during this horrific tragedy.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Oh man oh man oh man,.... he was so young... RIP according to Ken Rosenthal the Marlins are working on a statement Wtf first thing I read this morning on twitter . f***ed my whole mood up, the guy was so young man...
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 This is so unfair. He could have been one of the greatest ever.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 This is so unfair. He could have been one of the greatest ever. Forget his talent just yesterday he was on the Marlins bench with his teammates..... in less than 24 hours they'll never see him again..... we truly aren't promised tomorrow, this is so tragic

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 I've never wept for a baseball player before but this is just a punch in the gut

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I've never wept for a baseball player before but this is just a punch in the gut This is on par with Oscar Taveras... so tragic.
flafson Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Speechless, thought maybe it was a different Jose Fernandez but guess not...
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Just waooo... Very sad news
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 The story I'm reading is the boat crashed into a jetty and there was 3 bodies discovered in the water, one of them is Jose Fernandez
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Wtf is this a joke
xposbrad Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Very sad news. A combination of his talent, young age, and what he's been through probably makes it even more hard to digest.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 This is the greatest tragedy in baseball history.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Wow it all can be taken away so easily

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Holy s***. This is terrible news for the Marlins, and terrible news for the sport of baseball.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 This is the greatest tragedy in baseball history. Yeah it's up there... I have never been searching so vigorously on twitter to see if someone was going to post "Sorry my account got hacked" or "It's a different Jose Fernandez". This is different from Oscar Tavares too because Jose Fernandez was a show stopper. And I'm not specifically talking about his talent, he's very charismatic and had such a free spirit and passion for what he did.

Just a devastating, irreplaceable loss.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Why was he out boating at 3am? This all seems so avoidable. Tavares too. Life is so fragile. Horrible news.

I don't see the difference in this/Taveras or Adenhart's tragic deaths. I feel the same as I did when their stories broke. It's just awful news, they were all just kids.

He was set to start today too, but his start got pushed back a day. It's probably fair to say if he hadn't been pushed back, he wouldn't have gone out last night.
bowld Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Horrible news. That being said, nothing good is going to come out of being on a boat at 3am.

It's probably fair to say if he hadn't been pushed back, he wouldn't have gone out last night. It woukd have been his last start of the season if I'm not mistaken . I have in my league, what a tragedy.
