KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 I am getting really distracted now looking for old highlights... here is Buck Martinez from 1987 if you want to see young Buck -- this isn't the point where it reached implosion, it is from a couple of weeks before. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI7lxXhssRo Holy s***, that's the entire game. Um... no thanks. I lived through that. I don't need to relive it. That being said, I listened long enough to hear them mention Stieb being dropped from the rotation by Williams that year. I remember that happening and then him coming back into the rotation. Looking at his game log, it seems like he only made two relief appearance and the second one was an emergency first inning replacement that essentially brought him right back into the rotation. That made me look as his stats. He had a 1.32 K/BB which by today's standards is pretty bad and I guess would somewhat vindicate Williams' decision but it turns out his career K/BB was only 1.61 and this is a guy who for most of his career was the ace of the staff. It really was a different era back then and it doesn't seem like Stieb was that bad by his own standards and those of the era. Williams was a weird crotchety old coot who made oddball decisions so it was probably more Williams being Williams that prompted that bizarre little turn.

The entire idea of a long man is gone... In this game Wells pitched 6 innings of relief... different times. Could use that now. Hell maybe Sanchez should of been a spot starter and long man this year. Get him 150 innings. Pull the starters early if they didn't look good.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 The Seattle series will be difficult to live through........ If you're so sure it won't go well, no need to watch or continue posting.
puphood Verified Member Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 If you're so sure it won't go well, no need to watch or continue posting. I quit last night in the 5th. And yeah I will continue to watch this merry-go round of truly poor play till at least the end of the Seattle series........Oh by the way that's 2 wins in a row.

puphood Verified Member Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 WTF are you talking about, two wins in a row? best the Jays have done in Sept.....
West Texas Forever Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 best the Jays have done in Sept..... I agree the Jays have been horrible this month, however 6 teams have won the World Series as the Wild Card so anything can happen in October baseball.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 best the Jays have done in Sept..... The context in which you decided to bring that up made absolutely zero sense.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 By the way this the implosion thread.... It's the not the "troll by pretending to know the future thread".

I have never criticised Gibbons but giving EE legs a rest and sticking in Smoak? As some other poster stated maybe they should give Thole a try at first at least he can get on base of late.....
puphood Verified Member Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 The context in which you decided to bring that up made absolutely zero sense. let me help ....they can't string even 3 wins together against one of the worst teams in the game......

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 It's the not the "troll by pretending to know the future thread". Don't be sore at the poster. Be sore at the team for playing like ass.
JoeCarter Verified Member Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 I agree the Jays have been horrible this month, however 6 teams have won the World Series as the Wild Card so anything can happen in October baseball. Um, not since they went to a 2-wild-cards-play-1-game-elimination format in 2012 (after which only 1 WC team has won it all, the 2014 SF Giants). In fact, the very reason they went to two WC teams + a 1-game elimination game was BECAUSE baseball playoffs are basically a crapshoot, and the prevailing sentiment was that winning your division over 162 games should put you on better playoff footing than sneaking into the #4 spot. So, uh, yeah "anything can happen". But they changed the rules to more or less slice in half the odds for WC teams. So YMMV.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Don't be sore at the poster. Be sore at the team for playing like ass. I'll probably continue to do whatever I want.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Who cares what you call it this point? I just call it pain.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Who cares what you call it this point? I just call it pain. Back on schedule!!! Some folks have been worrying that implosion was off schedule. Implosion has been cleverly engineered for maximum pain level and duration. The completion date (Fan Appreciation) day was chosen with a little humour. The occasional false moments of hope (like two Victories over the Angels) are to increase the pain, and keep the date on schedule (we don't want it to happen too fast) Implosion start date: September 1st Implosion end date: September 25th (Fan Appreciation Day, 3 games behind Mariners for second wild card, all hope lost). So now that we've given one final moment of false hope the implosion will continue fast and furious... you do the math... Jays will be losing 6 of the next 7 (including a sweep by Seattle) to complete the implosion in front of 30,000 silent fans against the Yankees on Fan Appreciation Day.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I'll probably continue to do whatever I want. Being wrong it is then.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 There are going to be big changes to this roster over the off-season me thinks.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Being wrong it is then. I don't know why you keep going out of your way to try and start petty arguments with me but it's pretty pathetic.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 There are going to be big changes to this roster over the off-season me thinks. That was probably going to be the case regardless, but especially now. It's an old roster that could use the turnover.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I don't know why you keep going out of your way to try and start petty arguments with me but it's pretty pathetic. There's no argument here.
