Atkins and Shapiro (and LaCava) appreciation and transaction review

A lot of it will depend on the playoffs as well. A world series appearance and we may see Rogers forcing Shapiro's hand.

What's a Jays world series game worth to Rogers. Easy $25 M a pop

Chris Davis had a worse track record than Edwin did and he got 7 years 170, that's 24.3 million AAV. Edwin is 3 years older but he should be able to get 5 years at that AAV, i'm thinking 5 years 110 is the absolute floor.

Chris Davis is also an everyday first baseman and capable of playing the Outfield. And younger. So this all factors I'm sure.

it's estimated that a deep playoff run is worth $30M in additional and future revenue to a team. keep in mind that home teams do not get much of the ticket revenue for playoff games.

I'd dispute that if Rogers could broadcast playoff games, but unfortunately we get Harold Reynolds.

I'm just talking team revenue. Doesn't matter who is broadcasting Sportsnet is still getting the ad revenue (they just have to pay for the feed). A bunch of us were trying to figure out last year what percentage of ad slots they sell ahead of time. Jays out early and Sportsnet needs to have pre-sold those late rounds.

I still don't think Hendriks trade was a fail at all, it was a good reliever for a quality reliever/starter... starters have more value than relievers. The deal made sense at the time; we 100% needed the SP depth.

You're entitled to any opinion you wish, but you've got 100% of respondents in this thread telling you you're way wrong on this one, so just check your pride and admit to the goof. It's easier, I promise. We traded a 26-year old reliever coming off a terrific season with 4 more years of cheap team-control for ONE YEAR of a 32-year old swing man who'd compiled a total of 3.1 WAR over his entire 8 year career. We could have had 4 years of Hendriks for close to the same as the $4M we paid for ONE year of Chavez. Hendriks had a terrible first half but has been incredible since returning from the DL in June. It made no sense whatsoever. It's making me even angrier writing this now.

Any international guys worth going after in the outfield? Can't see much on the free agent market tbh since I don't like Reddick at all.

He's not an international guy but one unconventional addition would be Tim Tebow. I was as skeptical as anyone but apparently the scouting reports are glowing. Might actually be worth a flyer.

A flyer and some time in Dunedin, but, he's nothing I would pencil in being on my 40 let alone big league roster.

I've been in wait and see mode on Shatkins. I think they've done a solid job so far and as mentioned earlier I feel like they'll make the small steady moves to improve the club, but, are not big gamblers like AA was. I think they'd probably make the Donaldson deal, but, not the Dickey or Marlins deals and that's not applying hindsight.

Interesting perspective. They made a few minor moves that on first blush seemed desperate and unlikely to work out but have worked ie Grille and Benoit. Hard to forget Lacavas role in the Free-agent signings, many of which have been solid. Honestly, it's too early to ring too much praise or criticism.

AA did all the heavy lifting already. The real test of the management will be next season. I will say one pet peeve I have about the aw shucks manager are his comments about how hard it is to improve an already good team. I mean what exactly were you hired for?
