The middle game of a three-game set from Lawrenceville, GA saw the Herd fall to 0-6 against Gwinnett in 2016, and lose its fourth-straight ballgame during the last road trip of the season. Buffalo is now 9-14 in the month of August. Jesus Montero and Chris Colabello each went 2-4, with Colabello homering for a two-run shot in the eighth. A 1-1 tie was ended by Gwinnett in the bottom of the sixth, when leadoff batter and major league veteran Reid Brignac knocked a solo home run over the right field wall. Brignac's blast, just over the leaping grab of Junior Lake, began a stretch of five unanswered runs for the Braves. Darrell Ceciliani knocked his 10th home run of the year in the top of the first to put the Bisons' out on top 1-0. It was the only earned run allowed by G-Braves' starter Rob Wooten, who surrendered four hits and one walk in 4.0 innings of work. Tyler Moore tied the game at one for Gwinnett in the bottom of the first, cracking a single with two runners on into right field past a diving Chris Colabello. Moore went 2-4 with two RBI in the contest, with Briganc going 3-4 with three RBI, and Braeden Schlehuber finishing with three RBI in a 2-4 night. Bisons' starter Casey Lawrence settled down after the first inning run, keeping Gwinnett off the bases until a leadoff walk in the fifth. Lawrence ran into trouble in the bottom of the seventh, when a single by Kyle Kubitza and a double by Daniel Castro brought up Gwinnett catcher Schlehuber. The Braves' backstop singled in a run on a hit into right field, which got past Lake, allowing a second run to cross the plate. Lawrence left after allowing four earned runs over 6.1 innings, striking out five. Ryan Tepera, returning from a stint with the Blue Jays, relieved Lawrence. His return was sullied by Brignac, who connected for his second home run of the game, with the later shot coming in the form of a two-run homer. Bradley Roney, who relieved Wooten in the fifth, pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, and punching our four hitters. He improves to 3-0 in the year. Maikel Cleto entered for Gwinnett out of the bullpen for the top of the eighth, but a dropped infield pop-up allowed Jesus Montero to reach first. A batter later, Chris Colabello made the error count, mashing a two-run homer to right. Tyler Moore added Gwinnett's third longball in the bottom of the eighth, taking Chad Girodo deep. The Moore homer was followed by Braeden Schlehuber's singling up the middle, adding his third RBI of the night. The Bisons were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Tuesday, following the club's loss to Gwinnett, and a win for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Aug. 23. In the club's final road game of the 2016 season, the Herd will send Scott Copeland to the mound against the Braves on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Coolray Field. On Friday, the Bisons head home, and will begin a four-game series with Lehigh Valley. BISONS NOTES: Reliever Ryan Tepera rejoined the Herd after being optioned by the Blue Jays on Tuesday… Tepera, appearing in his first Triple-A game since Aug. 7, allowed his first earned run on the road since July 4. Jesus Montero increased his hitting streak to 15-games, the longest by a Bison this season. http://i.imgur.com/yefNLNA.png http://i.imgur.com/BGmlXH6.png http://i.imgur.com/bt9wBuT.png http://i.imgur.com/nrz4upk.png Portland, Maine - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (62-68) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but the Portland Sea Dogs (51-76) stormed back for a 10-7 win on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. As they did on Tuesday, the Fisher Cats started strong. An RBI triple from Dwight Smith, Jr. and a sacrifice fly from Rowdy Tellez made it 2-0 in the first inning. New Hampshire added three more in the second with RBIs from Ian Parmley, Richard Urena and Smith. Portland scratched across a run with an RBI groundout in the second, but Urena answered with a run-scoring single in the fourth to re-extend the lead to 6-1. Portland took over from there. Shane Dawson entered the seventh inning with just three runs allowed, but a pair of walks and a double loaded the bases and chased him from the game. Brady Dragmire (BS, 1)(L, 4-6) allowed two singles, a walk and an RBI groundout to give Portland the lead. the big blow was a two-run, game-tying single from Aneury Tavarez. New Hampshire managed to answer in the top of the eighth when Jason Leblebijian tripled and scored on an infield single from Parmley to tie the game at 7-7. Nate Freiman dealt the finishing blow in the bottom of the ninth, launching a three-run, walk-off homer over the massive fence in left field to give the Sea Dogs a 10-7 win. Urena, Tellez and Parmley drove in two runs each, while Tellez extended his team-leading RBI total to 70. Ramirez faced the minimum 24 batters over his eight frames, striking out eight Jays. The first hit of the game did not come until the bottom of the fifth when CF Jeff Hendrix recorded a two-out infield single off of RHP Justin Shafer. The Jays' starter impressed in a no decision, allowing three hits over six scoreless frames. Shafer was outdueled by Ramirez who had not allowed a baserunner until he hit 3B Dickie Joe Thon in the seventh inning with one out. Thon was caught stealing to end the inning. With the no-hitter still intact headed to the eighth, 1B Ryan McBroom dribbled a single down the third base line to record Dunedin's first hit. A double play off the bat of RF Jonathan Davis kept Ramirez facing the minimum. In the bottom of the eighth, Tampa put the first runs on the board against reliever RHP Francisco Rios (L, 5-6). After 3B Thairo Estrada led off with a single, SS Gleyber Torres tripled to the wall in right center, giving Tampa a 1-0 lead. Rios retired the next two batters with Torres at third, but LHP Jose Fernandez surrendered a pair of singles as soon as he entered the game, providing the 3-0 final score. RHP Dillon McNamara (S, 12) shut the door in the ninth. The two teams will partake in a rubber match, the final game of the year in Tampa for Dunedin. Romano struck out five consecutive Dragons between the fifth and sixth innings before departing one batter into the seventh for precautionary reasons. The righty from Markham, Ontario left with a 1-0 lead after giving up just two hits and one walk. Jackson Lowery (Blown Save, 1; Loss, 1-1) was hurried into action and gave up a walk and a bunt single before Jose Duarte tallied the game-tying RBI single into center. Dayton again rallied against Lowery in the eighth inning on back-to-back singles before Lugnuts closer Andrew Case walked Nick Senzel and gave up the go-ahead RBI groundout to Avain Rachal on a slow grounder to third base. Juan Kelly broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning with a solo home run onto the grassy hill in right-center, his twelfth round-tripper this season. Dragons reliever Ryan Hendrix (Win, 3-0) tossed two scoreless innings and struck out five Lugnuts, including three in a perfect eighth inning. Connor Panas led off the ninth with a single against converted starter Tanner Rainey (Save, 1), who then recorded three straight outs to close the Dayton victory. Rain showers in downtown Dayton delayed first pitch by one hour and twenty-eight minutes. Lansing suffered a third consecutive loss to the last-place Dragons, but remained just a half-game behind the Great Lakes Loons for the Eastern Division wild card playoff spot with just 11 games left to play. Great Lakes lost at home to the Fort Wayne TinCaps, 2-1, earlier in the evening. Left-handed starter Angel Perdomo (3-7, 3.54) heads to the mound for the 7:00 p.m. series finale on Thursday night in a battle of all-stars against Dragons righty Austin Orewiler (3-12, 4.08). The Lugnuts return home to Cooley Law School Stadium for a three-game series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods from August 31-September 2, the final homestand of the regular season. An early jump gave them a big enough lead to lock down their fourth win of the series. Boise hopped on top early. A two out double for Garrett Hampson in the first had the Hawks in business with Willie Abreu following up with his own double. Canadians starter Denis Diaz had surrendered an early 1-0 lead and Boise never let go. A long top of the third ensued, including for separate walks, which saw the Hawks add four runs. Wes Jones put a two run single into center and Wilkyns Jimenez snuck an RBI single into right to see Boise ahead 5-0. The Hawks would top off their game with a solo run coming across in the fourth. Hampson picked up his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly into right. Steven Linkous would come home and Boise got their final run, leading 6-0. Vancouver attempted a come back. A pair of runs touched home against Erick Julio in the fourth. A fielder's choice brought home Deiferson Barreto and a Josh Reavis double saw Rodrigo Orozco come to the plate. The Canadians would get their last run in the seventh on Reavis' solo home run to left off Ryan McCormick. Boise would set it down the rest of the way, polishing it off with a patented Julian Fernandez save for his Northwest League leading thirteenth save of the year. Boise heads to Hillsboro to face the Hops for the last leg of the eleven game road trip. After an off day on Thursday, the Hawks will return to the diamond on Friday. admin Site Manager Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Montero is on fire, hopefully he keeps it up when he's called up. 15 game hit streak. .395 in last ten games. Wish we saw some home runs though. Vlad hitting .333 in last ten games with 7 walks giving him a .512 OBP in that span. He has atleast one hit in 42 of 55 games this year. In his last 45 games, after a slow start in his first ten games, he's hitting .308/.471 .971 OPS. Christian Lopes after going on fire for ten games is hitting under .100 in his last seven games.

nmrch Verified Member Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Likely Vancouver. Do we know what Atkins' philosophy is on pushing prospects? Some GM's are less aggressive than others but you can justify putting Vlad in the MWL. Looking through this year and previous years, it not that rare, there seem to be about half a dozen 18 year olds in the MWL and the SAL every year.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Try Lansing. Possibly, maybe if he does well he can be promoted.

I could see a promotion next season no doubt, I just think he'll start off in Vancouver.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Lansing Did you hear this young jedi? Or just where you think he'll start.

Holding him back for extended spring training makes no sense at all. It's going to be Lansing for sure. I don't even think its a question unless he gets injured.

A lot of organizations have a 2 short seasons(which include the Dominican league) policy for IFA's and even high school draftees before putting them in full season A ball, we had that during the AA regime. I don't think its a given at all that Vlad Guerrero will start in the MWL next season.

If he was playing in the GCL or DSL I would agree, but he spent this entire year in Bluefield, and there is no reason to hold him back for another extended spring training unless something unforeseen happens. It'll be Lansing for sure.
King Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 And he's already spent 2015 playing in the DSL backfields, maybe they'd consider that one of his 2 years (if the policy is even in place).
