Doesn't really feel like it. Surely Smoak is worse than him with RISP and high leverage?

It feels like Smoak (even before his slump) had a ton of garbage home runs (exception being the two-homer tie/walk off one)

I've dealt with anxiety most of my life, and sadly, I feel there could be something to this. Who knows...

Smoak is just s*** tho... ;)

In the same way that we know batting average doesnt stabilize until something like 600 AB, what do we know about how CLUTCH stabilizes? is this too small of a sample size or what?

Honestly, Saunders needs to be moved down in the lineup right now. He's not hitting at all. I'm confident he'll turn it around, but he should be hitting 5th or 6th right now.

Travis

Donaldson

Edwin

Tulo

Martin

Saunders

Carrera

Upton

Ceciliani

Let Smoak ride the bench and roll with Edwin at 1st for now.

He isn't as good as he was in the 1st half and he isn't a s*** as he has been so far since the AS game. He should be moved down a bit and left there until he gets its back together. We need that LH bat.

To be fair other than the last two games basically everyone not named Travis has been s***.

That's not accurate. Tulo and Martin have been raking over all. Eddy has been steady. Series in HOU was an abomination...and we still won 3 of 4.

I'd believe so.

Can't remember exactly but it is more than 5 full seasons for sure.

It's one of those things where by the time it stabilizes the skill set has likely changed so you can never really know. I suppose you could fill the gap by regressing like you do for platoon splits.

He's walked an awful lot in high leverage situations.

Why do we care what Saunders has done in 50 at-bats? That can easily be explained by some BABIP luck. Thankfully our FO isn't as naive as this forum.

I don't know about this but his slothy defense scares me.

ftfy, mate.

Jeff Sullivan doesn't present it as anything other than the statistical quirk it is and I don't think too many people here see it differently either. Jonn and a few others is not "the board".

meh, Sully straight out says in the article that it proves nothing about Saunders abilities in clutch situations. It's just showing that he's been absolutely s*** in the highest leverage situations this season. Grant's comments are a typical over dramatization of what is being said...which no one has said he'd continue to be bad in those situations in the future. He could have pointed out that in 8 high leverage situations BJ Upton had struck out 7 times with the Jays as well.

Regardless... my point was driven.
