CBlake Verified Member Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Starting pitchers: Dickey vs. Green Lineups after Amaretto ftw Dickey starts are always nerve racking for me, you just never know what direction they are going to take, eight solid inning or an offering of wild pitchs, walks and getting hit hard. Glad for this series I decided to make my one road trip of the season for Tuesday and Wednesday, knowing now Estrada and Happ will be starting. After the show the Jays offence put on today, will be fun to see them in the Bronx, shwoing us how it's done.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Starting pitchers: Dickey vs. Green Lineups after Amaretto ftw Un poco temprano para esto!!
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) Who is Green? He's kind of interesting. Never had much hype as a Yankees prospect (and was in the tigers system before) but he's been decent in the 27IP this year. Just so frigging unlucky with his HR/FB ratio. He was one of two pitching prospects the Yankees got back for Justin Wilson Edit: Bluejays actually drafted him in 2010 but he never signed Edited August 15, 2016 by jays4life19
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Ugh Dickey 6.50 FIP in 2nd half
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I predict a Thole home run. He's put some oomph into his ABs lately and Yankee Stadium is awfully nice to lefties. Then again he mostly hits stuff the other way anyway.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 If there was one word I could use to describe RA, it won't be "consistent". My God... Dickey's RA9-WAR has hit a brick wall... he might not even be worth his contract this season. I'm thinking it's 4th and 40, time to punt. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1245&position=P#value
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Atleast we don't have to face Tanaka. We usually always get Tanaka. Have to take care of business. Red Sox are coming and the Orioles just keep finding ways to hang around.

But has been very bad and the narrative that he finishes strong is not showing up in the numbers. I'd love to see us skip his starts. But that throws us right back into the IP issues for Sanchez and Stro.

Yeah, I've always had his back, but his value is plummeting, not quite to the point of skipping his starts for the exact reason you've posted. The conversation of having him on our roster next year seems ridiculous to me at this point, especially since we've acquired Liriano. It'll be an interesting offseason.

You think he might just retire? He seems to have a lot of interests outside of baseball and is very close to his wife and children. I know he's talked about the desire of being a free agent in the past and choosing where he gets to play but you'd have to think there won't be a ton of interest in him so maybe that takes away from the appeal.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Ugh Dickey 6.50 FIP in 2nd half Damn, wasn't he supposed to be good post ASB?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I have a feeling though Dickey is about to go on one of his good runs
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Damn, wasn't he supposed to be good post ASB? He's a FIP buster, and essentially you shouldn't look at KB'ers and FIP busters other than their ERA and RA9-WAR, but thing is, his ERA is north of 7 in the second half, lol. He's been bad, and we need him to turn it around starting tonight.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I have a feeling though Dickey is about to go on one of his good runs What are your feelings based on? Today's game is way more telling. I have a feeling Dickey is done.

I doubt it, he's said as long as he can compete he'll stay in the MLB, but you never know. He doesn't seem to care much for money, and he has plenty now.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Is the desire to spare Stroman and Sanchez really a justification for keeping Dickey around if he has lost all effectiveness? If you MUST have a 6 man rotation, would you really lose anything swapping Bolsinger and McGuire for Dickey and Thole assuming Dickey keeps pitching like this?

It wouldn't shock me to see a team looking for 200+ innings give him a $8-10 million contract for one year. He'd be a good fit on some NL teams.

This should honestly be the last straw for him. If he bombs, he should be done.

The report on McGuire is that he's atleast a full season away. And that has more to do with his bat that the Blue Jays will probably will want to try a little longer to develop. If its not Thole its Kratz or Jimenez. Apparently Jimenez has rebuilt some value in the organization because hes been name dropped by Atkins mutiple times.
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) If there was one word I could use to describe RA, it won't be "consistent". Poor choice of words on my part lol. It was his first game of the year where he didn't walk anyone though so it stood out. Last year he had 3 games in September with 0BB which really is surprising as hell. edit: I f***ed up, thought they were playing the Astros again haha. You can forget what he did against the Astros 2 weeks ago. Edited August 15, 2016 by Governator
