G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 They are still actively in trade talks If successful: What SHOULD they do with the rotation and BP And what WILL they probably do
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2016 Author Posted July 29, 2016 I think they should let Sanchez keep starting, at least for now. He's been phenomenal, and is showing no signs of wear Maybe delay his starts here and there to reduce the innings? Soft 6 man rotation for a while? Stroman and Dickey are clearly the weakest links in the rotation. The thougt of Hill or Gray replacing Sanchez and still sending Stroman and Dickey out every 5 days here on out doesn't sit right.
MainChromosome Verified Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Six man rotation, or put Dickey in the pen. Hutch should be starting over dickey at this point.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I like the 6 man rotation idea with Dickey being the long man on occasion with a quick hook for some of our pitchers. Keep them all rested and strong all the way to the end Also, it really depends on who they get

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2016 Author Posted July 29, 2016 Dickey the Closer. Red Sox tried thatt of course. LOL
CHRIS Verified Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I would like to see them put Dickey in the pen and continue to start Sanchez until he shows signs that he needs to be taken out. I don't know why I think this, but if I had to guess who would be easier to stretch back out after a bullpen stint, my guess would be a knuckleball pitcher.

Stroman is similar to Sanchez. He's never thrown a ton of innings either yet there's no talk of a limit with him. As you said, Dickey is a weak link as well. If they do acquire Hill they should keep Sanchez in the rotation and do something with one of those two. Probably put Dickey in the pen as the long man. The Dickey-Thole battery though kind of throws a wrinkle in that though.
MainChromosome Verified Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Why the concern over Sanchez and not Stroman? Has anyone on the Jays clarified this?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2016 Author Posted July 29, 2016 Why the concern over Sanchez and not Stroman? Has anyone on the Jays clarified this? No. Gibby no longer answers questions about his plans for Sanchez. The concern was all in the pre season and didn't seem to include Stroman at all
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Six starters would probably be the way to go
bowld Verified Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Trade Dick and his personal catcher. 2 wasted roster spots
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2016 Author Posted July 29, 2016 Trade Dick and his personal catcher. 2 wasted roster spots That would be ideal But no one giving us a starter wants a Dickey rental
bowld Verified Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I dont care what we get for them. Just get them off this team

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Leave Sanchez alone. Maybe stop letting him go 8 innings when he doesn't need to will help. If you can add a starter I would hope it would be to replace Dickey. And Dickey can spot start to take unnecessary wear and tear off Sanchez. But the starter they get better be someone you can start in the post season otherwise it's pointless. Seeing what Cashner cost today. That's not going to happen. No way the Jays are paying that much for a rental.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Why the concern over Sanchez and not Stroman? Has anyone on the Jays clarified this? Stroman threw 165 innings in 2014 (that are official, might be more in addition). He did have the layoff last year, but teams seem to worry less about that than whether a pitcher has built up the innings in the past or not. It wouldn't hurt to limit him to 5 innings in September or something when the rosters expand, but he shouldn't need to be shut down imo.

souvlaki Verified Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Why not do what they did with Sanchez in the minors and piggyback the outings. You can start Sanchez every 5 days let him go 3 innings and switch to Dickey. The velocity difference between them will throw off the batters. You control Sanchez's innings and perhaps make Dickey more effective? You still need a #5 starter and I don't know if that would be Hutch.

That is until the first time Sanchez breezes through 3 innings and then Dickey coughs up a bunch. I'm glad I don't have to make the decision.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 If we get a guy like hill then we should try piggybacking Sanchez and Dickey. Let Sanchez take 4 innings and Dickey go the rest of the way. I'm not convinced that the BP will be less stress on his arm and I'm not convinced that letting him throw 200 innings will be good for him either. So keep him at the regular rotation just limit his innings. This way we may actually see the Dickey effect for once lol

I like this but would expand it to where dickey piggy backs all of Sanchez,Stroman and Hutchison's starts.Stagger the rotation so any one of the 3 pitches every second night.Optimally they trade for a starter then Dinkey could just piggyback with Stroman and Sanchez. You could also put Hutch in the pen and have two long men for that roll.Although if he were smart Bean would be asking for Hutch in a trade for Hill so........ Should be plenty of options regardless.
Melvin Verified Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Stroman shouldn't be spoken in the same sentence as Dickey. Sure he's had a down year but I'd still give him the ball in the playoffs, Dickey no f***ing way! Pardon my french.
IBTrini Verified Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Six man rotation, or put Dickey in the pen. Hutch should be starting over dickey at this point. Dickey in the pen? Wouldn't trust that at all. You need someone who can throw strikes and no one, not even Dickey or the catcher, knows where the ball will end up. Would really dislike if that moved was made.
IBTrini Verified Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Hutch no better than Dickey, unfortunately. ... yet my stomach does not get in knows when Hutch throws. Every pitch Dickey throws has me on the edge of the seat.
