The Blue Jays are working to add a starter before Monday’s trade deadline and are canvassing the market looking at “all reliable options,” according to an industry source. Among the options the Jays are considering are Phillies starter Jeremy Hellickson, Athletics starter Rich Hill and the Rays quartet of Chris Archer, Jake Odorizzi, Matt Moore and Drew Smyly.

Toronto also had a scout for Rockies left-hander Jorge De La Rosa’s last start in Baltimore, according to an industry source.

It’s not clear who the Jays are considering a top priority at this point, though the club talked with the Padres about Andrew Cashner before San Diego dealt him to the Marlins. Toronto discussed Cashner with the Padres last season as well, a source said, but ended talks when the Padres tried to get them to include Aaron Sanchez and/or Marcus Stroman.

The Blue Jays is also looking at relief help, even after a small change-of-scenery trade with the Mariners in which they obtained Joaquin Benoit for Drew Storen. If the price for starting pitching is too high, the Jays could theoretically go after solid relief options and look to use Drew Hutchison as a rotation option.

Toronto’s search for a starter will likely be intensified due to a restriction on Sanchez’s innings, though the Jays could balk at the extremely high price currently being placed on available starters. The Jays have already made one significant move this week, acquiring Melvin Upton Jr. from the Padres.

If they add a starter this weekend, what happens?

Sanchez to the BP right away?

Stroman to the BP?

Dickey becomes 6th starter and gets skipped?

I don't think option 1 is necessarily the best one, though to FO might disagree

Does it look like that man gives a f***

Poll:

1. Gibby owns no suits

2. Gibby owns one old suit that hasn't fit him in 20 years

3. Gibby owns multiple nice suits but hardly ever wears them

Maybe piggy-back Strochez? Alternating starts with the other in the bullpen? A messy approach but there might be benifits for both players.

Wow--that's absolute BS if the Padres are trying to get Aaron Sanche or Stroman. Cashner isn't worth that.

It was last season he said, when Stroman was injured and Sanchez was bad.

Gibby owns one suit. He wears it to weddings and funerals, and that's it. (Also, the tie is somehow quirky and not totally funeral appropriate.)

Probably 2 of our top prospects (Urena, Alford, SRF Grenee and another B prospect I would guess

Or one of those plus a younger cost controlled MLB player. Pillar, Travis, etc.

Edit: silly post by me. Only a controllable younger starter would require that.

Rich Hill is going to cost more than Price did a year ago? wtf

Giving up Travis for Rich Hill seems crazy to me and we would still have to add a prospect?

Trading a prime 4 War CF who's a fan favourite seems ill advised. Even Travis is showing he's a 3-4 War player going forward. Neither of them are going anywhere unless another Donaldson is coming

Confession: I thought Hill had several years of control

Also didn't know he is 36.

For a rental obviously no

Agree 100%. I wouldn't want to trade either unless we were getting a good starter with multiple years of control.

Nothing but prospects for a rental

Am I crazy or isn't Travis our most valuable(in the trade market) player after Donaldson? He's at 4 WAR through his first 110 games. Don't give that up for 2 months of Rich Hill please.

He's right up there with Tulo and Pillar

And no, he's a solid piece of this team for years to comee. Don't trade.

I think he's easily more valuable than Tulo(old and expensive) and Pillar(all defense).

I think it would be better to just have them go 2 times through the order, then the other come in. Stro starts to get hit more 3rd time through the order, so he'd be a decent fit. Hutch would also be a decent fit. The added benefit of course is that Sanchez could still be used as a starter come the playoffs.

So what would be a fair price to give up for Hill as a rental? Perdomo + Rios ?

The guy can't even go 1 inning against us, they should be paying us to take him off their hands.
