If anyone has been to either park and can tell me what I shold be checking out while there or anything else Chicago related, that would be cool

Why none of the Cubs vs. Sox games during the week, or Lollapalooza the next weekend (I can just see Big John being a Flosstradamus guy)? Stay in Wrigleyville after the game. All the tourists hear that it's packed after games and leave, and it's just locals with great beer prices. Leave the Sox game as soon as the game is over.

 

I really like the Architectural River Boat cruise. As for the touristy stuff, I found Sears (now Willis) Tower to be a waste of money. I did enjoy river walk and the Magnificent Mile shopping is worth walking...but it's overpriced and snooty. Check and see if there are any other festivals going on downtown, five summers ago I found a great Comedy Fest and at some street improv show Tim Meadows, Bob Odenkirk and Steve Carroll just come in and made themselves part of the show. There was a great food festival too.

 

You are from Alberta so I assume beef is your meat of choice...Ditka's restaurant was a surprisingly good steakhouse, and you get to see all the memorabilia . If you are all the beef your wife can handle we had vegetarian in our group and he enjoyed his meal too. If you want adventurous but busy (with reservations we were at a shared table), try The Girl and the Goat. I was apprehensive because there were things like a Pig Face and Tongue on the menu, but had the Bass and it was amazing.

I forgot about Blues bars. I found one local place that was incredible but it's gone now. Make a stop at Buddy Guy's Legends, just to soak up the atmosphere. I hear that Buddy himself hangs out at the bar way more often these days.

The wife already signed us up for that architectural river cruise on Sunday night, that's why I'm catching the afternoon game that day.

 

Her work schedule has us booked for the night Sox/Cubs games which is why I am limited to the afternoon games during the week.

 

Friday is budweiser tank top promotion day on Friday though, so that's a plus

It's been a couple years but there is literally nothing around US Cellular. Probably my least favourite experience of all the ball parks I've been to. I'm going for 3 nights in August to see Pearl Jam at Wrigley. My only option for baseball is the White Sox and I think i'm just going to skip baseball for this trip.

 

As far as other things to do my wife has us booked on the architecture cruise too. We're also doing a gangster bike tour. Also planning to visit the Museum of Science and Industry where they have a German U-boat from world war 2.

I stayed at the Hyatt when I went to Chicago back in 2009 to catch a couple of Cubs games. Nice hotel and a nice bar/lounge as well. I believe your close to Millennium Park and I recall there was some good spots around. Definitely want to go back to Chicago again, seemed like a great city!

 

Use StubHub or you could always check the Cubs site as they do release tickets close to the game. Not sure if you can scan the tickets from your phone via the StubHub app for Wrigley, though if not you just have to be close to a printer like Jay just said. As well, check out Vivid Seats as I've bought baseball tickets from them before as well.

Just be careful with stubhub if you try and wait until day of the game. I got boned on that in Seattle as some teams cut off stubhub several hours before the game.

1. Architectural river tour is awesome.

2. Check out the Wrigley Tour if you can.

3. Go see a show at Second City

4. Sears tower and the Navy Pier both suck. Don't waste your time.

5. Experience Wrigleyville.

6. Try out a couple of the famous pizza places. I forget the names, but both are close to one another.

7. We ate at Shula's steakhouse. Expensive, but awesome.

8. Embrace and enjoy all the craft beer.

Jot sure if the white Sox game was delayed at all tonight but there was one helluva thunderstorm here tonight.

 

We were at on of my wife's friends' apartments on the 30th floor in a downtown building and it was incredible to watch come in from over Lake Superior.

You mean Lake Michigan. I grew up on Lake Superior and it is nowhere near Chicago

It's not too bad. Sox are border line Southside. Not much to do anyways in the area so get in and head back to the loop or wrigleyville to party. Detroit is alright. You caneed hit up the casinos if that's your thing.

Detroit is such a shithole. If you're into casino's you might as well just stay in Canada across the river and go to the Ceasers palace in Windsor.

US Cellular field is crossed off the list, and it was really kind of mundane. Just an okay stadium but a very good game to see. Melky walk,off probably saved some lives today, the rage was palpable after those 3 9th inning homers from Detroit to tie it up

 

Hoping Wrigleyville will make up for the stadium experience on Friday

U.S. Cellular is in a dangerous part of town. Subway stops at 35th and Sox if I remember correctly. Keep your wallet in your front pocket!! The park seems small on tv and even smaller in person. The outfield walls seem so close to home plate.

I bet the prices are outrageous! Pretty much any restaurant with an athlete's name on it is going to be overpriced. Mike Shannon's here in St Louis near Busch Stadium is no exception as well as George Brett's out in Kansas City which closed a couple years ago

You're going to have to sit on the rooftops across the street to catch one of Stanton's home runs! Maybe Ichiro will get his 3,000 hit at Wrigley Field. That would be a great place to have it happen. I remember when Gwynn got his 3,000 hit at Olympic Stadium. Probably didn't receive as much fanfare as it could have somewhere else since San Diego at Montreal wasn't exactly a sportscenter-worthy match-up even with the milestone.

It wasn't as overpriced as I thought it would be for the normal menu, but table 23 is his own table with its own pre-determined menu for a table of 6 and yes, it was crazy. It was a business dinner for my wife and some clients so the company is getting the bill. 4 course meal served by the chef himself with different wine and beer pairings for each course and finished with 23 layer chocolate cake.

 

It was an insane amount of food.
