Since we are again without Blue Jays baseball, why not start a new tradition as the playoff race warms up?

This one is for anyone checking out the BAL @ NYY and MIN @ BOS games. Both will be televised on good old vanilla Sportsnet. I don't think any of us have any illusions about how the latter game will turn out, but you can "discuss" it here anyway. Also the O's are looking to avoid a four-game sweep in Yankee Stadium, which would could make it the second devastating four-gamer conceded by the O's in the last month (remember that they got totally punked in Seattle back at the beginning of this month).

As of this morning, the AL EAST Standings are as follows:

BOS - 1st place

BAL - .5 GB

TOR - 1 GB

NYY - 6 GB

Lineups:

O's:

Reimold, LF

Schoop, 2B

Machado, 3B

Trumbo, DH

Davis, 1B

Hardy, SS

Flaherty, RF

Joseph, C

Borbon, CF

Yanks:

Gardner, LF

Ellsbury, CF

Beltran, RF

McCann, C

Teixeira, 1B

Gregorius, SS

Rodriguez, DH

Castro, 2B

Torreyes, 3B

Starters:

Chris Tillman v CC Sabathia

From MLB.com:

• Orioles manager Buck Showalter missed Wednesday's game with the flu, but he is expected to return Thursday. Manny Machado and Chris Davis also sat out Wednesday with illness. Davis, who missed three games, is expected to return Thursday, while the club will determine before the game whether Machado can return to action.

• Thursday is Sabathia's 36th birthday. He's the first Yankees pitcher to start on his birthday since Chris Capuano on Aug. 19, 2014. Capuano allowed four earned runs over 5 1/3 innings against Houston.

• Alex Rodriguez has had great success against Tillman in his career. In 19 at-bats, he has five homers and 10 RBIs to go along with a .368/.435/1.158 slash line.

Lineups:

TBD

Starters:

Tyler Duffey v Steven Wright

From MLB.com:

• The Twins have won five of their last seven road games, with each of the losses coming by just one run. Despite their recent run of success away from Target Field, the Twins are still 14-31 on the road this season.

• Boston took two of three games from Minnesota in early June. The Sox outscored the Twins, 27-12, in that series.

• Wright is 1-0 with a 2.03 and 1.13 WHIP in two career starts against the Twins, while Duffey's loss earlier this season was his only career start against the Sox.

• Red Sox first baseman Hanley Ramirez comes into the series on fire. He hit three home runs and tallied six RBIs in Wednesday's game against the Giants. Both were career highs.

lol I haven't checked the standings in forever and I'm surprised the Yankees are only 6 behind.

it really cuts against the grain to root for the yankees... but they can win a 25 inning game burning through both teams pens and all is well.

what the hell is Girardi doing? One of the best pens in the league and he leaves CC in with men on against a righty

He's an idiot, and some people think he's an icon.

Especially since he didn't use Miller yesterday and Bettances only threw 10 pitches

He got manage ultra high budget teams with multiple future hall of famers. That's good work if you can get it. :)

Overheard Kay saying "ya gotta go with your vet there". Yeah, stick with the tired old guy who is facing a demonstrable disadvantage in arguably the game's most crucial moment to that point.

3/4 is pretty damned good though. I didn't think New York would muster more than a single win, so they definitely deserve a box of chocolates for this series.

Well this thread was completely unproductive. Could have left it alone. Baltimore was quietly f***ing off in around baseball.

Twinkies are in full on stink mode so far this game.... hope they can take at least 1 game this weekend but I'm keeping my hopes limited knowing they will probably roll over and play dead.
