burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 This is silly. Players can say whatever they want. lol tell that to Yunel Escobar.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 lol tell that to Yunel Escobar. In his case he didn't even say anything, lol.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Boston media is probably the worst group in the entire league. At least Toronto's are just harmlessly stupid, but the guys in Boston are huge homers, extremely rough on their own players, gossipy, and they love to tamper with other teams. Yup. f*** NESN. Bunch of obnoxious homers. lol tell that to Yunel Escobar. Lol technically he didn't even say anything
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 lol tell that to Yunel Escobar. I meant in this context.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Here's the truth.... Players, agents, GM's, coaches, managers.....anyone....ANYONE...can say whatever they want to anyone. They can...AND DO try to convince each other to sign here, there, wherever...GM's are always talking to agents and dropping hints, ideas, talking numbers. That happens. There is no doubt. And no one gives a s***...unless the media gets wind of it. If you can keep it on the down low, you're fine. Ortiz's only mistake was saying it in front of the wrong people. It's the same as players having deals all lined up before the draft or the IFA signing period. It's all worked out way beforehand in many cases. Edwin knows what teams would be interested in him and has a range of salaries that he can expect from each given team. At least as a general framework. That changes based on performance, supply and demand (who signs where, and who's left desperate). Ortiz saying that he thinks EE would be a great replacement for him is not news...to anyone. I'm sure he mentioned this to Edwin 3 years ago in private. Like absolutely everyone who watched the all star game lol
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 As long as the Red Sox get punished all will be right in the world.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Like absolutely everyone who watched the all star game lol Exactly. Don't say anything interesting to the media and you won't get in trouble.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 I hope he goes to Boston. EE has holes in his game. Not worth big money. Just like Mr. Price.

Price has been as good as he's always been this year, IMO. Sometimes guys just get unlucky with where their batted balls go (in his case, over the fence).

Price is leading the AL in xFIP, 4th in FIP, and even his ERA is top 30 despite the high babip and hr/9. I don't get how some people say Price isn't worth it, hes among the top pitchers in the game during a 'down' year

Could be just an oddity

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 EE is overrated and crazy if he thinks he won't depreciate in a year

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 David Ortiz's public comments on his preferred replacement may have gotten him in a bit of trouble with Major League Baseball. The league is reportedly expected to look into the Boston Red Sox slugger's post-All-Star Game comments where he openly lobbied for Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion to join the Red Sox next season for possible tampering, according to Sportsnet 590 The Fan's Jeff Blair. "The Red Sox know also they need to bring a force in the middle of the lineup (after I retire),'' the 40-year-old told reporters on Tuesday. "And sorry, Blue Jays, but who better than Encarnacion to do that?'' Players are subject to discipline if they violate baseball's tampering rules just like team executives, Blair noted. Ortiz also suggested the Red Sox acquire Miami Marlins ace Jose Fernandez. Good, he spoke way out of line, everyone knows you can't say s*** like that, especially publicly and on that scale.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 This is silly. Players can say whatever they want. Since when?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Since when? Since they don't tell it to the media.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Since they don't tell it to the media. lol... no kidding, thing is, he did, during the Mid-Season Classic Post Game presser.

Everyone does know you can't say that....especially one of the most established players in the league. IMHO....this was a BIG EFFFFF - UUUUU to MLB again by the BoSox, who think they are above mundane things like rules. Perhaps anytime team management/player tampers like this it would be great if MLB can rule that "that specific team is banned from signing that player". Of course this would never get past the collective bargaining process!

baseballsss Verified Member Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 People are acting like these players aren't friends and never talk. I bet Ortiz tells EE to join Boston all the time we just don't hear it. Whether he does it over the media or text who cares.. In the end it's EEs choice.

I'm sure Edwin and his agent have been aware of potential suitors for a very long time now, the fact that Boston is a potential landing spot is extremely obvious. Still, you're not allowed to discuss the acquisition of players under contract to other teams, and so that behaviour needs to be nipped in the bud.

I do agree that they shouldn't do it but some people in this thread are overreacting. While sending Ortiz a letter is pretty dumb it's pointless to fine them cause they don't really care about $5000. He said what he said not much else you can do.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Ortiz gives zero f***s... he just said, I'm not an owner or GM, *laughs*... I could say I want to go play for the Blue Jays... *laughs* Zero f***s given.
