Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 His wRC+ is up to 104, his ISO is a sexy .224, his BB and K rates are looking very decent, and his BABIP is still only .248. With some further BABIP regression, we could be looking at the 25 HR, .800 OPS bat we expected. Now everybody breathe a sigh of relief.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I'm rooting for Tulo. Great player in his prime and the Jays have a lot invested in him the next four plus years. Looked like s*** early in the year and the end of last year which makes me nervous. I'm still nervous about him long term but put up a few 3+ WAR seasons over the next five years and I'll be happy.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Well Radioactive Man the world is safe again Yes but for how long
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Martin has had a much tougher hill to climb to get his numbers back up but for the past 5 week so he's been above average as well.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Watching Tulo the last few weeks has been so much fun. This is the treat everyone has been waiting for once the Jays acquired him.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 It's at the point where I'm expecting something good to happen when he's up now. Exactly. Early in the season you were just waiting for him to watch two meatballs pass and then swing through something with two strikes. Now it feels like he has a chance to hit something hard every time he's at the dish.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Hopefully He finishes with a 2-3 wins season so the team can shed that contract in the offseason.

BTS Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 stfu It's going to happen, and it will be glorious.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2016 Author Posted July 5, 2016 And put Goins at short moving forward? Or maybe we can snag Reyes for nothing? Yes, let us cast off our 3 WAR player and replace him with a garbage scrub.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2016 Author Posted July 5, 2016 It's going to happen, and it will be glorious. It won't, nor should it.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 And put Goins at short moving forward? Or maybe we can snag Reyes for nothing? The only players you're allowed to roster are players that are on your team or have previously played for your team?

Ever since he got to Toronto, he's looked like a deer in the headlights, and he's been pressing at the plate. Right now he looks confident and ready to attack.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 It won't, nor should it. It might not, but it should. Injury prone 2-3 win 32 year olds on $90M contracts are scary business.

He seems like a little bit of a diva, and I really believe the trade from Colorado shook him.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 BTS is worried about Rogers money. Unless payroll is literally unlimited, what you've just posted is very stupid.

Not when they give you 2-3 WAR despite the DL stints. I don't know what your obsession with slashing payroll is, but he's actually worth his salary and we need middle of the order hitters going forward. Cutting payroll is only okay if you're actually going to reallocate it in ways that help you compete. This year's FA market might be the skimpiest of our adult lives.

I don't know if it was that, or his hip was bothering him and not allowing him to swing the way he was capable of. Either way, what he's doing right now looks very promising.

I'm very, very skeptical about his ability to be worth his salary going forward. 2 wins last year. 1.1 wins this year through ~55% of the schedule. I see a league-average player with huge injury concerns who is now 32 years old. Assuming he finishes at around 2 wins, I wouldn't give him 4/82 as a free agent in the offseason.

Christ, man, we have $55M coming off the payroll already. How are you going to spend that, let alone Tulo's salary as well? And that's assuming payroll holds flat at $140M, which isn't a very good assumption considering we're leading the AL in attendance.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Christ, man, we have $55M coming off the payroll already. How are you going to spend that, let alone Tulo's salary as well? And that's assuming payroll holds flat at $140M, which isn't a very good assumption considering we're leading the AL in attendance. Exactly, no reason to trade Tulo, it truly seems like the previous dropoff was all due to comfort level and learning a new league. It's possible, but I wouldn't expect to see something like that again. Lots of salary coming off the books, we can sign Reddick (who will likely have a huge power surge in TO), especially since he looks like he'll be coming off a down year, and, if attendance remains up, re-sign 1 of JB/Edwin (my pick would be Edwin) to play DH/1st and perhaps re-sign Saunders to play DH/1st if he takes hometown discount.
polar bear Verified Member Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Said on here last year that Tulo looked really unhappy. Even earlier this season nothing seemed to be changing, and I basically gave up on him. Now! What a transformation,it's amazing what happiness can bring. Keep it going big guy,I'm back on board.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Seems like Tulo finally switched to a lighter bat. Singles all day with the occasional homerun... But at least he can actually hit a fastball now.
