The Herd improves to 44-34, as they look to reclaim the lead in the IL North. In the first game of a three-game series from Louisville Slugger Field, Chris Leroux pitched 6.2 innings of one-run ball, winning his sixth game of the year. He lowers his ERA to 3.15. A pair of home runs against Bats' starter Homer Bailey gave the Bisons a 2-0 lead in the first inning. A one-out solo shot by Andy Burns put the Herd up 1-0, and Jesus Montero powered a 418-foot blast over the 20-foot high right-centerfield wall. Bailey, originally scheduled to go two innings in his rehab start, was removed after one inning, and replaced by Amir Garrett. Garrett stranded runners on first and second in the second inning, getting Burns to pop up to end the frame. Melky Mesa doubled in the fourth for Buffalo, but Jio Mier flew out to left, keeping the game 2-0. The Herd stranded a leadoff double by Darrell Ceciliani in the fifth. The Bats threatened for the first time in the fourth, putting runners on first and second with two away. Jermaine Curtis shot a ball to Burns at second base, who leaped, knocked the ball down, and recovered to throw out Curtis at first. A double-play in the bottom of the seventh brought up Raffy Lopez with a runner on third. The Louisville catcher flared a single into centerfield, off the glove of a diving Ceciliani, cutting the Herd's lead to 2-1. Seth Mejias-Brean knocked Leroux out of the game a batter later, singling into right field. Pat Venditte relieved Leroux in the seventh, and stranded runners on the corners, as Juan Perez popped up to second. Amir Garrett delivered yeoman's work out of the bullpen for the Bats, pitching seven innings in relief, allowing no earned runs, as the Herd mustered just two hits against the lefty. Buffalo increased their lead to 3-1 in the top of the ninth, as Darrell Ceciliani picked up an RBI groundout with the bases loaded against Drew Hayes. Dustin Antolin earned his eighth save of 2016 with a perfect ninth inning. Game two of the Herd's three-game series in Louisville is set for 7:05 Tuesday night. Taking the ball for Buffalo will be Drew Hutchison, who looks for his fourth straight win. Daniel Wright is scheduled to start for the Bats. BISONS NOTES: On Monday, reliever Ryan Tepera was recalled to the Blue Jays, while lefty Chad Girodo was optioned to the Bisons. Tepera led the Herd with 11 saves, while Girodo returns to Buffalo after three appearances in his latest stint with Toronto... Jesus Montero extended his hitting streak to six games, and reclaims a share of the team-lead in home runs, tying Matt Dominguez with his eighth homer… Tony Sanchez also moved his hitting streak to six games. The catcher threw out his sixth baserunner of the season, nabbing Seth Mejias-Brean in the fifth inning. Bisons are 18-12 in his starts this year… The Herd's seven-game win streak is the clubs longest since they won seven straight from July 24-30 in 2014. http://i.imgur.com/J21VCRG.png http://i.imgur.com/OqQX6oC.png http://i.imgur.com/KrwWyFN.png http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/8/4/179304584/cuts/Tellez_Rowdy_5316_schofield_tzk8zlgm_6o63rjm8.jpg MANCHESTER - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats took an early lead but fell further and further behind Monday night, eventually losing 8-2 to the Hartford Yard Goats at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The Fisher Cats (32-43) fell to a season-worst 11 games below .500, giving up 14 hits and issuing five walks to the visitors. Hartford (41-33) snapped a two-game losing streak, moving ahead in the third inning and never looking back. It was the third loss in a row for the Fisher Cats, who are 8-17 in 25 June games. New Hampshire opened the scoring in the bottom of the first against Hartford starter Zach Jemiola. Jason Leblebijian led off with a single, and moved to second on a walk drawn by Rowdy Tellez with one out. Ryan Lavarnway sliced a single to left field, plating Leblebijian and putting New Hampshire ahead 1-0. Hartford evened the score in the top of the second inning against New Hampshire starting pitcher Jeremy Gabryszwski. Rosell Herrera singled with one out, stole second and moved to third on a single by Ryan McMahon before Corelle Prime brought Herrera home on a sacrifice fly, tying the game at 1-1. The Yard Goats exploded in the top of the third inning. Gabryszwski walked Zach Osborne with one outs, then gave up three straight extra-base hits to Raimel Tapia, David Dahl and Pat Valaika, with Dillon Thomas singling home Valaika to make it 5-1 in favor of Hartford. The visitors added two more in the top of the fifth. Tapia led off with a single, and advanced to second on an errant throw by Tellez at first. Dahl dropped a bunt single, moving Tapia to third base with nobody out. Valaika hit a bouncer to short that Leblebijian threw away, with Tapia scoring on the play. With one away, McMahon hit a flare to left off reliever Daniel Schlereth that plated Dahl and extended Hartford's lead to 7-1. New Hampshire got a run back in the bottom of the fifth. Matt Dean knocked a one-out double to left-center field, and came in on a one-out fielder's choice by Roemon Fields to cut Hartford's lead to 7-2. Hartford got another run in the top of the eighth against Fisher Cats reliever John Stilson, who allowed a leadoff single by Jan Vazquez. Stinson got Osborne to pop out, but Tapia singled and Dahl walked to load the bases. Valaika lined a single to right to score Vazquez, running the lead to 8-2. Gabryszwski took the loss, surrendering seven runs on eight hits (both season-worsts) over four innings; he walked one and struck out two. Schlereth allowed two hits and a walk in one inning. Murphy Smith pitched two innings of scoreless relief, surrendering one hit and walking two while whiffing three. Stilson gave up a run on three hits and a walk in one inning of action. Matt Dermody pitched a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout. The Fisher Cats will try to get back on the winning track Tuesday night, with left-hander Shane Dawson starting for New Hampshire against Hartford righty German Marquez. First pitch from Northeast Delta Dental Stadium is at 7:05 p.m., and Ben Gellman has the call starting at 6:45 p.m. on the Fisher Cats Radio Network. The Lugnuts saw their six-game winning streak come to an end. The result spoiled a starring performance from Lansing left-hander Angel Perdomo, who struck out a career high 12 batters in 6 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and two runs. Eighth-inning homers from Max Pentecost and Connor Panas gave Lansing a 5-2 lead with six outs to play. Both extended long on-base streaks, with Pentecost reaching in his 22nd consecutive game and Panas for the 15th straight game. Great Lakes narrowed the deficit to one run on back-to-back sacrifice flies against Ryan Cook in the bottom of the eighth. In the ninth, Dusty Isaacs (Blown Save, 6; Loss, 1-4) plunked leadoff hitter Cristian Gomez. Two batters later, Darien Tubbs doubled in Gomez to tie the game at 5-5. A Noah Perio fielder's choice erased Tubbs, landing Perio at second base. The Lugnuts intentionally walked Ariel Sandoval before Green outraced a deep bouncer to second, scoring Perio. Wes Helsabeck (Win, 3-0) pitched a scoreless ninth inning in relief to earn the decision for the Loons. The Lugnuts and Loons play the second game of their four-game series at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. Left-hander Ryan Borucki (4-3, 3.28) starts against Great Lakes right-hander Isaac Anderson (5-3, 4.64). The Lugnuts return to Cooley Law School Stadium in time for Independence Day! Behold: 2) Justin Maese: Maese continued to be a groundball machine (dat sinker slider combo), going 7 innings with 4 strikeouts and a 13-0 groundout to flyout ratio. For those keeping track at home, thats 31 groundouts to 4 flyouts on the season. 3) Max Pentecost: Pentecost extended his on base streak to 23 games, going 2/4 with a home run and a double. Honourable Mention to Alvaro Galindo (6 innings, 8ks), Guad Chavez (6 innings, 5ks) and Bo Bichette (3/4 with a double). Kings Platinum Arencibia 1) John La Prise: La Prise, who was a star of the night the other day, could not follow up his good day at the plate as he went 0/4 with 4 strikeouts and a walk today. Better luck tomorrow, John!

Nafro Verified Member Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 (edited) I can't explain why...maybe I'm just that desperate. This has been the most excited I've been about our Minor System since I started following. I really think the lower levels are going to produce some decent prospects for me to get excited about. **Removed my negative sarcasm to end that statement. Edited June 29, 2016 by Nafro
