Blair is saying that the Jays are very serious about acquiring a starter near the deadline

I hope not. Unless a team is looking for straight salary relief. Our farm system is depleted enough already.

Yea, they will acquire Wade LeBlanc back from the Mariners so he will be eligible for the post season.

The Jays have/had Hutch, Floyd and Chavez (in some order) before LeBlanc was ever going to get a look

That's true. I forgot they have a couple relievers they can turn into starters.

The benefits of players seeing this and knowing they can sign here on a minor league deal and not get trapped is probably more valuable than Leblanc himself

Yeah, if he was 4th on the depth chart, after the current 5 starters, then that makes sense.

Still, feel like we sold a bit low on him. Would have liked to have seen him get a couple of starts, to see if he can turn his milb numbers into comparably MLB numbers to boost his trade value.

Outside of Hutch - how realistic is the time line to transition Floyd or Chavez from the pen to the rotation? They'd need to accept a demotion to AAA and spend 3-4 weeks there stretching out their arms?

I doubt they'd demote them. It would probably start with 3 innings/50 pitches out of the pen one game, then a couple of starts where they go 5 innings/70-80 pitches.

lol no they wouldn't. I'm sure they could pitch 3ish maybe 4 innings if they had a start coming up. Its not like you need them to go 7 innings.

I'm sure that would do wonders for Floyd and his bulletproof arm...

I guess my point being that if Hutch replaces Sanchez and the injury bug hits, we're short on depth. Do you just throw one of them to the fire (I think Chavez is probably better suited to do this btw)? It might take 2-3 starts before either could realistically give you 6 innings. That would tax the pen a lot - and might not be the best option when we're going to need every win we can get.

Having LeBlanc available to come up for a spot start, without disrupting the bullpen might have been the preferred option. I get the good faith stuff - but surely 32 year old pitchers signed to minor league deal accept and know that's why they were signed? for that very situation?

Maybe not and I guess hopefully if this situation arises, there's another journeyman starter in AAA who's throwing the ball well that some other team is going to just gift wrap to the Jays out of good faith.

Well does Wade Leblanc going 5 innings give you a better chance of winning than Chavez/Floyd starting and going 3? IMO it doesn't so what difference does it make. You call up some reliever that can give you a little length anyways.

s***, yeah...Jays should have held out for Drew Jackson...

If the Jays wanted to stretch them out up here, they could piggy back them once or twice. They wouldn't be getting sent down as they'd have to pass waivers, which they won't. I seriously don't see what the fuss is about in moving Leblanc. Yourself, GD and BTS have this right. LeBlanc suxxxxxxxxxx

Wade Leblanc

6 IP.

3 K 1 BB 3 Hits.

0 Runs allowed.

If the bullpen hadn't blown it, he would have picked up the win.

Six shutout innings in his 2016 debut. Not bad for a guy we gave away for peanuts.

LeBlanc the one that got away. We can all stop thinking about Syndergaard now.
