dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 You can't fix stupid - I'd pass. But his stupid will blend in with all the other stupid on this team.
BTS Community Moderator Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 I take a chance if the value is good. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery. JD could straighten him out. Maybe Tulo goes the other way. No way they can afford Tulo. Pompey seems like the type of player who would be right up their alley though.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Forget his temper, he's just a s***** pitcher... 5.32/5.29/5.61, barf. Velo is down 1.3 MPH this year from last, SwStr rate has fallen by 3%. There's nothing in his profile right now that promises better days ahead. Him being a piece of human garbage is just the cherry on the do-not-want sundae. He threw 99 mph and hit his spot....just so happened it was Machado's ribs lol
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 He threw 99 mph and hit his spot....just so happened it was Machado's ribs lol Yeah, but he missed it twice before that time.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Lol at anybody considering taking on this pos. Regardless of his personality, he's too scronny to physically sustain his velocity alongside the delivery. He'll be Tim Lincecum in 2-3 years.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Claim him just to bury him in some miserable town and make his every day a nightmare.
Hal Johnson Verified Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Is this for real? Are the Royals really looking to trade him? If so, what are some realistic destinations and returns?

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Pass! He needs to grow up.. Gregg Zaun would tear him a new one if he came to Toronto.. I don't even...
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I'd definitely take on his contract. Not sure what I've give up for the privilege though. Wouldn't pass on the chance to add a very affordable #3 starter if the price was right, even if he is a punk. Same, if he gets that command under control, look out. At worst a late inning killer.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 lol... at worrying about character between the lines.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Gross. I'd prefer we get people who arent giant *******s in real life on the team. Could never root for him
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 lol... at worrying about character between the lines. The guy tries to physically injure people...thats a lot different than the character problems guys like Machado, Bautista, Ortiz, etc have.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 lol... at worrying about character between the lines. With this f***stain, it is absolutely warranted. Players who don't give a s*** whether they injure others are screwed up in the head.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Hopefully he goes to Colorado and has the saddest career ever

Edit: I don't know, honestly.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Think about some of the scumbags that are employed by MLB teams, s*** dont forget the rays had a rapist pitching out of their bullpen a few years ago. Point being, it seems to me that some teams dont really give a s*** about the character stuff and just look at the numbers he can provide. I dont like Ventura and I wouldn't like him if he was traded to the Bluejays, but I dont think we are in the postion to be turning down young electric arms on discount (if we are even in/going to be in trade talks) especially with our deplorable farm system.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I'd take on his contract and throw him in the bullpen if all they want is a bag of balls. Some of this stuff comes from Ned Yost, I think we could calm him down a bit with Gibby.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I mean I've always endorsed the idea of dealing Bau and Edwin for young, cost controlled pitching.

The key is to not fall in love with that type of player. Buy low, improve value, sell again. Given the contract Ventura has, even if you move him to the pen and he becomes a viable late inning reliever, he'll be an asset. Just don't extend him and make him part of your core, or something like that. D-bags still gon be d-bags. He's not Machado level talent-wise to be worth the head ache over a long period of time.

Could never root for him Actually, Shulman was on prime time last evening and said that off the field (in real life) he is a nice guy. Always has a big smile and has time to talk to people, it's just that he gets fired up on the field. Don't get me wrong, I don't want him on my team but you kind of just pulled the "******* in real life" out of nowhere.

You have to be a giant douche to feel entitled trying to physically injure people. Bautista gets fired up on the field, as so do other controversial stars in baseball getting into yelling matches with umps, chirping pitchers. I don't see him jump punching the pitcher after he strikes out. Pitchers repeatedly trying to bean defenseless hitters and then hidding behind their teamates afterwards IMO is the just the lowest of the low. The only sports comparasions I can think of are hockey goons who are reckless like Rafi Torres and they have no place in sports either.
Praxis Verified Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 We all know he's going to end up in Texas, so why the angst?
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 The guy tries to physically injure people...thats a lot different than the character problems guys like Machado, Bautista, Ortiz, etc have. Agreed, except for the one incident with Machado where it did look like he tried to injure to me. Great player but never liked him since that. Its fked up that Odor can get 7 games for punching someone, and yet you are often allowed to get a warning for throwing a projectile at someone at 95 MPH which could do greater damage.

Machado had that one bad weekend which was still awful. I've lost track at the amount of times Ventura could have hit someone on the hand/head and ended their career. Is there even a legit reason why he's doing it half the time other than the other player is just better than him? Pitchers throwing at batters repeatedly is easily what ticks me off the most in all of sports and I have no idea why it was even tolerated/encouraged from the get go. It's a lot worse than being caught for using PEDS IMO
