I wouldn't call it a rant. Donaldson usually seems very calm and reasonable in the positions that he takes. Donaldson is absolutely right regarding his comments. This shouldn't be part of baseball.

A rant is something that I would expect from Donald Trump.

Are you a real person?

Or a better example, a rant is something often posted by a forum member named Boxcar who actually supports Donald Trump.

What do the umps have against Donaldson? Last year when we were facing KC the entire team was throwing at him and even with warnings the umps never ejected any of them. Today, first pitch ok maybe no intent but the second pitch, come on, throw him the f*** out what the hell are they waiting for

I do too so what's your point? This isn't a politics forum so let's stick to baseball.

Yes, Donaldson does have a very good point. I think the Blue Jays should send a video clip to the MLB office and ask for a suspension to the Twins pitcher.

This is the result to Stanton when he was hit by a pitch a couple of years ago: ( from the Miami Herald - http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/mlb/miami-marlins/article2147959.html )

It really is amazing how grown men who lose at a game to other grown men think an acceptable response is to attack the guys who beat them. Like, physically attack them on live TV. Try not losing to other guys. Try not being literal losers.

first the rangers, then the twins

better not be a controversy in this yankees series or jays are gonna have a bad rep

The swagger and attitude this team carries will lead to something nearly every series.

I wouldn't want to make a rule that covers it cause it would be so tough to write, but he's right. Protect the players and make HBP's no longer the way to "exact revenge" for someone pissing you off. I'd love to say something like make it a discretionary number of bases the batter gets after a HBP, but putting more judgements into the umpires hands is a good way to have more fights.

One way to clean it up immediately is to actively enforce the ejections that are suppose to happen. If the ump thinks it was on purpose, throw the guy out, no warnings.

You want to give the umpires MORE power to throw guys out?

They already have that power, they just choose to ignore it the majority of the time until the retaliation HBP.

Hypothetically, If they ejected Bush when he hit Jose, that whole fight quite likely would have been avoided. Penalize the first infraction and then the retaliation and escalation would quite likely be reduced.

Would probably stop the throwing at a batter. Depends on what is better for the game. Less intentional HBP or less powerful umps?

all you need is less incompetent umpires. The rules are already there, but the competence is not.
